This position is within the Division of Online and Professional Studies at California Baptist University. This position supports the development and maintenance of online courses as well as trains other university personnel to leverage instructional technology for teaching and learning. The Instructional Designer also plays a critical role in ensuring that online courses meet industry standards in quality and web accessibility by performing the following duties. Position qualifies to work remotely subject to CBU Telecommuting policy.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Job duties include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Create engaging learning activities and compelling course content.
Collaborate with course representatives / subject matter experts to identify target audience’s training needs.
Set instructional end goals and create content that matches them.
Visualize instructional graphics, the user interface and the finished product.
Analyze and apply trends and best practices in instructional design and the use of learning technologies.
Apply best practices in web accessibility to develop online courses that are ADA-compliant.
Create inclusive online learning environments that utilize culturally relevant instruction and UDL principles.
Recommend exercises and activities that enhance the learning process.
Create instructional materials/interactive media (audio, video, simulations, role plays, games, etc.) to support the learning process.
Devise modes of assessment, such as tests or quizzes, to measure the effectiveness of the course.
Maintain project documentation and course folders.
Education and/or Experience
Master’s degree (M.A.) or equivalent; or four to ten years’ related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. A master’s degree in instructional design, educational technology, information technology, instructional technology, or a similar relevant field.

In-depth knowledge of learning theories and instructional design models.
Lesson and curriculum planning skills.

Knowledge of quality assurance frameworks for online course development.
Basic website design, video technology and editing skills.

Riverside Campus Profile
The beautiful 160-acre main campus of California Baptist University is situated in the heart of Riverside's historic Magnolia Avenue district just a short drive from popular beaches and mountain resorts. The main campus is comprised of more than 30 buildings featuring the 94,800 sq. ft. Eugene and Billie Yeager Center, separate men's and women's residence halls, multiple apartment complexes and modular housing, the 270-seat Wallace Theater, a fitness center, one of the region's largest aquatic centers, the Annie Gabriel Library, the Van Dyne Gym and the JoAnn Hawkins Music building, one of the nation's most advanced music production and recording facilities.
