Position available: April/May 2021 Full time, 11-month, live-in Note: 10-month academic/on-call; 1 floating/remote summer month Washington, DC
The American Studies Program (ASP), a Washington, DC-based GlobalEd off-campus study program of the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities (CCCU), is looking for a mission-driven, creative and flexible Director in Residence. This live-in, director-level role functions as the primary administrator of ASP including having overall responsibility for the management of personnel, student development, curriculum, admissions, alumni programs and budget.
We seek a candidate who finds fulfillment in putting ideas into action, demonstrating an ability to work with speed, precision, and accuracy in the process. We seek a candidate who will enjoy the creative process of thinking of new ways that the American Studies Program can continue to best serve students of our member institutions. Last, but not least, we are looking for someone who is mission-driven. We seek a candidate energized by the Christian identity and student-centered purposes of the program and committed to seeing program goals achieved. Candidates must have at least an M.A. and at least 3-5 years of experience in program management, preferably in an experiential education context.
ASP is one of three off-campus study programs offered by CCCU GlobalEd. Our programs are known for faith-integrated, academically challenging and experience-based programing with excellent faculty and staff. The academic strength and integrity of our GlobalEd programs is assured through regular evaluations by the CCCU Student Academic Programs Commission. Program directors are supported by a Washington, D.C. based support team (marketing, applications and enrollment, campus relations, crisis management and curricular development and planning).
Oversee the development and implementation of academic programs that are appropriate to the Washington, D.C. context, attractive to CCCU member schools, and provide for optimal enrollment.
Oversee academic operations such as curriculum design, syllabi, grading, experiential learning activities, etc.
Oversee a regular cycle of assessment and adjustment of courses, curricula, and program activities.
Oversee acceptance of applicants
Arrange industry guests/site visits for Adjunct led courses – in collaboration with adjuncts
Campus relations and general marketing of program, as needed
Supervise Faculty Internship Monitors (like TAs to help with grading assignments, and conducting midterm site visits)
Teach Class (approx. 1 hr/week) – workshops focused on vocation and/or professional development
Oversee/teach 2-week intensive/orientation for summer internship program (dependent on course offerings and Director expertise)
Financial Management & Operations
Function as the primary officer responsible for ASP operations, including personnel, budget and finances, facilities and equipment, and community relations
Hiring, supervision and professional development of graduate assistant support staff
Approval of hours, sick/vacation days, performance reviews, staff meetings, etc.
Supervise the Assistant Residence Director and participate in on-call rotation during academic semesters (9-month)
Oversee, maintain and update emergency response plan; train staff and monitor appropriate implementation of crisis management plan
Serve as final decision maker for student discipline issues, when necessary
Oversee implementation of Student Life Programming and Events (including non-academic guest speakers, student/alumni engagement, weekly dinner, spiritual formation, neighborhood engagement, orientation, etc.)
Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Persons applying for the position should:
Affirm the Nicene Creed and the CCCU’s employee handbook and have a strong appreciation for the Christian mission and purpose of the CCCU and its GlobalEd programs
Hold a minimum of a Master’s degree or equivalent, and have at least 3-5 years of experience in program management, preferably in an experiential education context
Have 2 years of student development experience
Possess strong intercultural competency and knowledge of experiential education
Have demonstrated management experience overseeing both people and processes
Demonstrate a passion for problem-solving and pursuing creative solutions
Possess strong written and verbal communication skills
Be detail-oriented, highly organized and flexible
Be a team-player who can manage multiple tasks simultaneously

Describe and give at least one specific example of a successful time that you served as chief influencer and spokesperson for a particular program. Tell us how you communicated the vision, value, and financial model to decision makers to successfully convince them to use or implement your program.
Describe your ideal team. How do you lead in order to achieve your ideal?

The selected candidate is required to live-in onsite in the Dellenback Center.
This position is considered an essential employee and will be asked to be on-call to assist with any emergencies that affect the students living in campus housing.
Ability and willingness to travel occasionally, if and as needed (less than 10%)
Willingness to be on call 24/7, in case of student emergencies
