Senior Director of Educational Programs Expected Start Date: April/May 2020 Full Time, Exempt Washington, DC
The Council for Christian Colleges & Universities (CCCU) seeks a Senior Director of Educational Programs who is responsible for directing the operations of the DC-based BestSemester support team, as well as supporting the BestSemester staff in 9 different international and domestic locations. BestSemester is known for faith-integrated, academically challenging global, experience-based programing with excellent faculty and staff. Program directors are supported by a Washington, D.C. based support team (marketing, enrollment, campus relations, crisis management and curricular development and planning).
The CCCU believes that experiential learning through domestic or global study abroad is a key contributor to intellectual and spiritual growth. A successful candidate will have a proven record of accomplishment in successful relationship and partnership building, legal, risk, and budget management.
This position reports to the Vice President for Educational Programs.
Student Programs Administration
Stay current on knowledge and trends in the field of global and experiential education.
Advise and serves as primary liaison and accountability structure for Directors at each site to ensure the standard of excellence and best practices are being followed for effective program operation and management; this work includes meeting with each program director at least once a month, virtually or in-person, and providing feedback to the Vice President for Educational Programs, who conducts the annual performance reviews for each program director
In absence of Vice President, or by delegation, have management and decision-making responsibility for all student program operations
Serve as primary decision maker for unforeseen challenges and circumstances
Consult and advise BestSemester program teams on matters of discipline, health and safety, and academic policy
Review student evaluations and program directors’ semester reports as part of ongoing assessment
Assist Vice President in planning and coordinating Program Directors’ annual meeting, staff conferences, and SAPC visits
Develop MOUs and negotiate, maintain, and manage consortium agreements with partner institutions. Serve as the primary contact for partner institutions.
Develop relationships and secure new partnership agreements with both CCCU and non-CCCU campuses.
Develop new signature documents and waivers for students requesting payment plans, and/or vaccination exemptions, and oversee the use of all BestSemester signature documents to ensure all appropriate documentation for each student is received prior to program arrival.
Answer the 24-hour emergency response line, and coordinate the DC program response to any issues.
Ensure the Student Programs crisis management plan is updated each summer and field questions from programs regarding changes to their plans.
Update the online incident reporting system, and read and respond to all incidents on programs, including reporting any incidents to campuses as needed.
Serve as the Title IX coordinator for the CCCU, staying up-to-date on training and advising programs on appropriate actions during Title IX events. Serve as the primary communicator reporting Title IX incidents to campuses and liaise with their staff to facilitate any necessary investigations.
Develop and maintain the healthcare questionnaires and Healthcare Provider Clearance forms for all programs ensuring the forms and questions are HIPPA compliant. Review all student applications that indicate they are currently being treated for an ongoing medical or mental illness. Determine whether or not students require additional paperwork for program approvals based on their health status.
Consult with the CFO and insurance broker on the appropriate insurance coverages for program sites.
Review daily OSAC reports from the state department regarding events affecting our program areas
Stay up to date on new regulations and legislation on the state, federal, and international level that may impact program activities in the field of international education (i.,e. GDPR, Title XI, FERPA) and create and implement the appropriate process and policy changes to ensure compliance.
Serve as the DC office consultant for any student disciplinary issues including probations and dismissals, ensuring compliance and equity in policy enforcement across all program sites.
Assist leadership team and Assistant Director of Enrollment & Marketing to coordinate communication efforts in crises.
Build and manage the student programs budget, setting program fees and establishing enrollment goals
Coordinate student billing with CCCU’s finance department which includes, but is not limited to, the collection and approval of fee reductions; negotiating special bill arrangements; and overseeing collections of unpaid invoices.
Oversee day-to-day management of DC Student Programs Office
Manage day-to-day operations of the DC BestSemester office.
Supervise Assistant Director of Enrollment & Marketing including holding regular meetings and check ins and provide annual performance review.
Plan and lead regular student programs staff and strategy meetings.
Persons applying for the position should:
Hold a Masters degree (MA) or equivalent, and have a minimum of 5 years of experience in program management, preferably in an academic global and experiential education context
Have proven experience successfully managing a program budget and ability to understand financial statements
Have a strong appreciation for the Christian mission and purpose of the CCCU and its BestSemester programs.
Have a solid understanding of how to run a business or program effectively and efficiently, as well as the ability to evaluate and improve business operations Possess strong inter-cultural competency and knowledge of international education
Preferably have experience living, studying or working outside of the United States
Have demonstrated management experience overseeing both people and processes
Demonstrate a passion for problem-solving and pursuing creative solutions
Possess strong written and verbal communication skills
Be detail-oriented, highly organized and flexible
Be a team-player who can manage multiple tasks simultaneously
Possess computer skills including: Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, database and web skills

Ability to travel up to 25% domestically, international travel may be required
