Job Summary - Teach a full load (equivalent of 24-27 credit hours per academic year and must maintain a minimum of seven office hours per each fall and spring semester) of university courses for undergraduate students by performing the following duties.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned by the Dean, School of Music and Fine Arts.
Teaches one or more subjects within the Department of Music's prescribed curriculum with a primary focus in music theory, private applied piano, and class piano
Prepares and delivers lectures and other instruction to students
Compiles bibliographies of specialized materials for outside reading assignments
Stimulates class discussions
Compiles, administers, and grades examinations
Performs related duties such as advising students on academic and vocational curricula
Serves on faculty committees as assigned
Develops and provides innovative instruction in music theory, private applied piano, and class piano
Assesses and reports student achievement validly and reliably
Mentors’ music majors
Participates in and contribute to the University community
Delivers academic advising to undergraduate students in music
Participates in music juries, sophomore assessments, recitals, recital hour, and studio class
Participate in collaborative music projects

Education and Experience– Completed Master of Music degree with an emphasis in theory and/or composition from an accredited university with university teaching experience at the undergraduate level strongly preferred. Specialization and expertise in aural-skill development is highly desirable. Applicants with demonstrated skill as a collaborative pianist/accompanist and/or stylistic flexibility in classical, jazz and worship may also be privileged during the search
Language Skills - Must be able to read, write and converse effectively in English in order to follow the University's Administrative Policies and safely perform the essential duties of the job. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex documents in English, ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints, ability to write speeches and articles using original or innovative techniques or style, ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics to University students, trustees, other employees and the public
Math Skills - Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages and area, ability to apply concepts of basic algebra
Reasoning Ability – Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems in English, ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, musical notes, etc.,) in its most difficult phases, ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables
Computer Skills - To perform this job successfully, an individual should have a good working knowledge of commonly used Internet browsers; Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Finale/Dorico, and ProTools or other recording software
License - Must be at least 21 years of age and maintain a valid Texas driver's license to drive any vehicle, including personally owned vehicles, on behalf of the University
