Assistant or Associate Professor of Chemistry – Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry (Tenure Track)
About Erskine College At the heart of Erskine College is its Christian identity. The mission of Erskine College is to glorify God as a Christian academic community where students integrate knowledge and faith, equipped to flourish as whole persons prepared for lives of service, leadership, and influence through the pursuit of undergraduate liberal arts, graduate, and seminary education. Description Erskine College invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position of assistant or associate professor in chemistry beginning August 2024. The ideal candidate will have a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a closely related field. A genuine enthusiasm for teaching in an undergraduate liberal arts environment is a must. Erskine College prides itself on providing a Christian liberal arts education in a small, tight-knit community. Erskine boasts a collegial faculty who develop deep connections with one another. Faculty also develop close relationships with students both within and outside their respective disciplines. Erskine provides a rare opportunity to integrate one’s Christian faith into the classroom. Therefore, candidates who seek employment at Erskine College should be professing Christians who are committed to exploring the intersections of faith and learning with students. Responsibilities • Qualified Candidates should expect a teaching load to include organic chemistry and associated labs each semester and biochemistry and associated labs each semester. • Candidates will also teach/co-teach our seminar courses for juniors and seniors. • Candidates may opt to teach inorganic chemistry, environmental chemistry, or a non-majors chemistry course and labs as needed. • Participation in securing funds and conducting undergraduate research during the summer months is encouraged but not required. • After the first year of teaching, faculty will serve on college committees and advise students, both majors and non-majors. In addition, working alongside the Department Chair to determine the departmental budget, completing major, departmental, and College assessments is a must.
Application Process To ensure full consideration, interested candidates should complete the online application, which can be found here. In addition, please provide the following: • Resumé or curriculum vitae • Cover letter • Statement of faith describing the candidate’s relationship with Christ and reflecting on how that faith affects teaching • References (at least three) If you have questions, please reach out to Dr. Ekaterina Michonova: michonova@erskine.edu or Dr. Clavell, Provost: clavell@erskine.edu
The mission of Erskine College is to equip students to flourish by providing an excellent liberal arts education in a Christ-centered environment where learning and biblical truth are integrated to develop the whole person. Therefore, Erskine seeks candidates for faculty positions who are professing Christians and who are committed to excellence in teaching and service. They should support the goals of a strong liberal arts education and be willing to explore with students the integration of faith and learning.
Erskine’s tradition of excellence in liberal arts higher education goes back more than 175 years to its founding in 1839 by the Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church, making it one of the oldest, most respected church-affiliated colleges in the Southeast.
Our alumni lead businesses and organizations both large and small throughout the world. More than half of Erskine’s graduates go on to some type of graduate education. In fact in the past several years nearly 100% of all graduates applying to medical graduate programs were accepted, and several proceeded directly into top tier Ph.D. programs. However, our mission moves us beyond simply producing competent profession...als. We seek to equip the whole person — intellectually, physically and spiritually — to flourish in life and leadership.
To do this, we see Erskine as both an excellent liberal arts college and a close-knit community. This combination provides excellent opportunities for students and faculty to take learning beyond the classroom. Quality is revealed, weaknesses are strengthened, and character is refined through intentional, individual relationships. Erskine is proud of the fact that faculty serve as mentors and often become lifelong friends with students.
