Bethel University, a student-centered faith-based private Christian university, seeks an experienced faith-filled leader to serve as the inaugural dean for the newly formed School of Business. Located in St. Paul, Minnesota, in the heart of the vibrant Twin Cities, Bethel University has been a leader and model in evangelical Christian higher education since 1871.
The vision for the School of Business requires an innovative and driven leader who will creatively engage the internal and external communities to elevate the reputation and excellence of Bethel University. The inaugural dean will be this new school's designer, creator, and builder. They will balance creativity and autonomy with partnerships with internal and external stakeholders, including Bethel faculty and other deans. The dean will benefit from the advice, support, encouragement, and network of accomplished business alumni and friends of Bethel, many of whom are C-suite executives who serve or served on the University's Board of Trustees.
The new dean will report directly to the provost while working collaboratively with the president and the president's cabinet, will serve as a member of the provost's council, and will help lead and support the university's mission and goals. The dean will establish the School of Business by bringing together Bethel's three existing business programs and the Department of Communications Studies. The business program is fully accredited by the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP) and is currently one of the largest and most active departments at Bethel. There are approximately 20 dedicated and committed faculty members in business and communications, numerous adjunct instructors, and 125 formal mentors working to educate and inspire over 500 undergraduate business majors, approximately 90 communications majors, and just over 100 MBA students.
The successful candidate will bring a vision for the future of business education at Bethel University. Candidates may emerge from various experiences, achievements, and leadership histories both within and outside of the academy. The next dean will bring substantial experience within their chosen professional track in leading large units toward significant growth and impact. All candidates from the academic career path should have a terminal degree relevant to their discipline, while those individuals with career achievements from outside the academy should have held a significant leadership role within their industry or organization(s), have meaningful interactions with higher education, and have a relevant master's degree. In addition, the ideal candidate will ensure the school maintains ACBSP accreditation, fosters a collegial environment, and drives strategic initiatives that enhance the school's reputation and impact.
All applications, nominations, and inquiries are invited. Applications should include, as separate documents, a CV or resume, a letter of interest addressing the themes in the leadership profile, and an essay of no more than 750 words describing how and why Christians should engage in the business world. For fullest consideration, candidate materials should be received by May 15, 2025. Applications, nominations, and inquiries can be directed to the WittKieffer consultants supporting this search: Jeff Compher and Maya Holt-Brockenbrough, Ph.D. at BethelBusinessDean@wittkieffer.com.
