Higher Ed Administrative Careers - Chief Executives/Executive Directors
The Chief Operating Officer is responsible for oversight and management of day-to-day operations under the leadership of the president to enable the president to nurture external relationships and focus on institutional growth. Responsibilities include oversight of the leadership, overall direction and effective management of the university’s administrative operations in support of Simpson University’s mission and management of tactical plans to deliver operational priorities, and contribution to the strategic plan for the university. Direct supervision of University departments as assigned by the President.
Qualifications:
Master’s degree in business or education required. Doctorate preferred.
Minimum of ten years work experience within higher education setting, with five years of senior-leadership experience or comparable business experience.
Experience in managing corporate legal affairs
Strong relationship builder and communicator with experience leading diverse work teams and developing organization-wide strategy for program excellence
Demonstrates integrity, strives for excellence, and has experience in leading others to new levels of effectiveness and programmatic impact; ability to successfully deal with sensitive or confidential information
Exceptional time management skills; listening, written verbal communication and interpersonal skills
Highly organized with ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver assignments on time

Technologically astute and capability of managing in multiple enterprise modalities and platforms

Essential Functions:
Provide leadership, administrative oversight and policy/protocol/process development for University operations.
Oversight includes creating, maintaining and coordinating strategies and policies that assure University compliance with applicable laws and regulations
Responsible for setting visionary University goals (short term and long term) in cooperation with the President and cabinet, and successfully meeting those goals
Guides the development and implementation of policies, procedures and practices that govern delivery of administrative support services
Collaborates with other senior leadership to determine needs and develops plans for major organizational changes in response to changing economic, workforce, strategic and programmatic needs impacting infrastructure and operating costs of services
In collaboration with the Chief Financial Officer, develops and recommends an operating budget that is consistent with Simpson University’s strategic goals and objectives and ensures that assigned areas operate within their budgets
Serves in a significant advisory capacity to the President and other executive leadership on a variety of issues
Responsible for directing and coordinating the activities of programs and services under the position’s direct span-of-control, delegating authoritative decision-making to direct reports ad holds them accountable for creating a culture of excellence and assuring optimal delivery of programs and services
Report directly to the President on a regular basis and is a member of the President’s Cabinet
Responsible for budget preparation and management according to the guidelines of the President
