Trinity Christian College seeks a full-time Campus Pastor. The Trinity Christian College Campus Pastor sets direction for the spiritual life of the college through a mature, wise, and hospitable Christian faith that advances the college’s mission and vision as an intentional Christian learning community committed to diversity and unity. This role fosters the development of a robust Christian community through preaching, teaching, pastoral care, departmental leadership, and membership on the Student Life Leadership team. The Campus Pastor offers a compelling, invitational, and winsome witness for the Christian faith with a demonstrated understanding of and commitment to a Reformed and thoughtfully evangelical posture. The Campus Pastor serves the whole community, though with a particular focus on the formation of and care for students.
The essential duties and responsibilities of this position include but are no limited to the following:
Student Life
Serve as a member of the Student Life Leadership team, an advisory group to the Vice President of Student Life, through participation in quarterly team retreats, collaboration with other members of the SLLT, and thought partnership on the development of programs and policies that strengthen the division’s ability to serve students and fulfill its purpose
Collaborate with the Vice President of Student Life and other members of the President’s Leadership team as appropriate
Manage a select portfolio of special projects within the Student Life division as assigned by the Vice President of Student Life.
Actively engage in the life of the College through campus presence and relationship building with students, faculty, and staff
Maintain strategic external relationships and represent the College in local churches, high schools, and community venues, in partnership with Admissions and Advancement.
Serve on College committees as assigned
Campus Ministries Visionary Leadership
Set the vision for and contribute to the implementation of a campus ministry program that compliments the college’s mission and vision to the development of a multiethnic, multinational, multidenominational student body informed by the Reformed theological tradition; with commitments to Christian Formation, financial wellbeing, belonging, access (to the completion of a college degree), and neighborhood
In partnership with the Vice President for Student Life, designated colleagues, and student leaders, plan and prepare the twice-weekly voluntary chapel services over the course of each semester
Preach regularly in chapel to provide a consistent voice for the campus community
Craft a semester chapel theme and schedule, inviting chapel speakers from both on- and off-campus
Pastoral Care
Provide confidential pastoral counseling to students, in partnership with the campus counseling service provider
Lead the community pastorally through significant moments in the life of the College
Collaborate with the Care team, a campus wide, early alert response team, to meet students’ needs, as appropriate
Participate in various College ceremonies, working with various members of the College community to craft ceremonies and celebrations that express the Reformed Christian mission of the College
Campus Pastor administrative duties
Mange the operations of the College’s campus ministries programming, including worship and discipleship ministries
Build and supervise a Campus Ministries team that leads worship, discipleship, and community initiatives to advance the college’s commitment to Christ-centered spiritual formation
Manage strategic planning, vision-casting, and assessment for the College’s spiritual formation programming
Theology Department
Teach two courses each academic year in THEO or MIN as determined by the department chair.
A graduate degree in theology, Biblical studies, Practical Theology/Ministry (M.A., M.T.S., M.Div., etc.) is required, a terminal degree or progress toward a terminal degree preferred (PhD, ThD, DMin, etc.). Ordination in a Christian denomination is preferred, but not required; and ministry training and experience, with time spent in an ordained pastor/minister role with preaching responsibilities. Professional experience in higher education student development.
Other qualifications include:
Minimum 6-8 years of experience with increasing levels of responsibility/leaders in higher education, student affairs, church ministry, or a related field required
Demonstrated experience handling issues/concerns as a confidential resource
Knowledge of state and federal regulations regarding student privacy, FERPA, Title IX, and other student-related issues.
Professional expertise and integrity.
Excellent computer and organizational skills
Excellent interpersonal skills
