Job Summary Full-time tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor level, conducting the Chamber and Philharmonic Orchestras and teaching Music Theory and other courses in the Department of Music & Performing Arts Responsibilities
Conduct the Bethel University Chamber Orchestra, an ensemble that includes music majors and non-majors from across the university
Conduct the Bethel University Philharmonic Orchestra, a community ensemble
Serve as the department's director of String Activities
Teach a variety of courses depending on candidate expertise and department need, with a strong preference for Music Theory; other possible courses include
Introduction to Creative Arts, Instrumentation, Conducting, Music History, methods courses, and a January musical or opera
Participate in departmental activities, including planning for the Festival of Christmas and various concerts in the fall and spring
Recruit students to the University Orchestras regardless of major
Recruit string majors to the department
Travel with the ensemble on annual tours
Evaluate applicants for music scholarships
Actively support the University's commitment to its Christian values and to liberal arts education
Contribute to an academic environment that seeks to advance inclusive excellence in the department and the discipline
Skills
Strong knowledge of string methods
Ability to teach theory, or other auxiliary courses
Exceptional conducting and concert programming skills
Ability to assist in hiring and management of adjunct string music lessons faculty
Experience
Experience as primary conductor of an orchestra or similar ensemble required
Experience teaching or serving as a teaching assistant of theory or other academic music class required
Education
Masters Degree in Orchestral Conducting or a related field is required; Doctorate in Orchestral Conducting or a related field is preferred
Additional Information Compensation: Salary and rank commensurate with qualifications and experience
