The Department of Media and Communication at Trinity Western University invites applications for a Full-Time Tenure Track Communications Faculty position of Communications, with a specialization in Strategic Communication and/or Public Relations. Appointment to this position begins in the 2025-2026 academic year, commencing August 1, 2025. The successful candidate will provide leadership and vision to the strategic communication/public relations area of the BA in Media and Communication degree, which combines courses in media, communication, and business (marketing). The role will help drive teaching and curricular innovation and excellence in the area, while supporting the department’s overall Program Learning Outcomes. In particular, the ideal applicant will demonstrate passion for Work Integrated Learning (WIL) in the teaching of strategic communication and/or public relations, effectively translating theories, principles and ideas in the classroom to professional practice and real-world application in relevant jobs and careers.
Responsibilities
Teach several (not necessarily all) key courses in the strategic communication/public relations option, such as Introduction to Public Relations, Introduction to Leadership Communication, Organizational Communication, Public Speaking, Persuasive Communication, Leadership Communication in Multicultural Contexts, Public Relations Writing, the capstone course for students in this area, as well as possibly new related courses
Maintain an output of dedicated research and scholarship in the field of specialization, in keeping with tenure-track commitments
Provide service in appropriate roles and capacities, as opportunities and needs arise (dependent on candidate interests and experience), including membership of university committees and potential department leadership responsibilities
Qualifications
D. or ABD in Communication (specialization in strategic communication, public relations, corporate communication, organizational communication, or related fields preferred, but not required)
Competencies, experience or interests in teaching approaches that link the classroom with the workplace and respond to changing market and career needs in the industry
Record of recent research and scholarship in strategic communication, public relations, corporate communication, or closely related areas (preferred, but not required)
Participation, membership and/or certifications in related professional organizations such as the Canadian Public Relations Society, Public Relations Society of America, International Association of Business Communicators, etc. (preferred, but not required)
Professional/work experience in public relations, strategic communication, corporate communication, media relations, or related fields (strongly preferred, but not required)
Ability to effectively integrate Christian faith commitments and strategic communication/public relations pedagogy in classroom teaching and/or professional practice.
The successful applicant will join Trinity Western University’s Media and Communication Department, one of four units that make up the School of the Arts, Media and Culture (alongside the Art and Design, Music, and Game Development programs).
