The compensation for this appointment will range from $80,000 – $90,000 annually and reflects what California Baptist University reasonably expects to pay for this faculty appointment. The College of Architecture, Visual Arts, and Design (CAVAD) at California Baptist University seeks highly motivated applicants for a tenure-track faculty of Interior Design, with an anticipated start date of August 2025.
The Interior Design Program is a rapidly growing program that equips emerging professionals to lead, employ theological considerations in their work, demonstrate empathy and care for others, and discern design solutions with evidence-based perspectives. The Interior Design Program is situated within CAVAD, an established multi-faceted design college dedicated to the integration of Christian thought and values; cutting-edge design pedagogy; and reflective inter-disciplinary practice; and more broadly within CBU, a faith-based institution, affiliated with the California Southern Baptist tradition.
The program seeks candidates with university teaching experience and/or critical practice experience. Candidates should be prepared to teach a variety of courses at the undergraduate level. Candidates will be able to successfully demonstrate their ability to teach and carry out a research agenda in the combined areas of Interior Design and another mission-relevant specialization such as sacred space design, evidence based design / design research, community-based design, advanced materials, lighting design, design pedagogy, Christian faith integration, or holds typological expertise in commercial, medical, educational, or religious design.

The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:
1) Terminal degree (M.Arch, MFA, or Ph.D.) in Interior Design or related field, or non-terminal degree in Interior Design plus notable professional experience;
2) Teaching experience at the collegiate level;
3) An existing or developing research / creative practice agenda that will expand or enrich the college’s pedagogy;
4) A history of service to the profession and/or the broader community;
5) Previous leadership in professional or academic arenas;
6) Interest in participating in and fostering cross-disciplinary inquiry across design disciplines.
Teaching responsibilities in the undergraduate Interior Design program. Specific course assignments will be dependent upon applicant qualifications.
