The Adams School of Music and the Arts at Gordon College seeks a full-time, tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor of Theatre Arts who is able to teach a wide variety of theatre courses and who has a preferred specialization in acting or directing. Candidates must display a broad range of skills that will allow them to contribute across a variety of theatre course offerings, in support of both the College’s liberal arts curriculum and its well-respected and vibrant theatre arts program. The position begins August 2025.

Gordon College’s theatre program has twice been named among the “Top 20 Best College Theatres” in America by The Princeton Review. The theatre program offers a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre Arts as well as a Theatre minor and Musical Theatre minor. Housed in the Barrington Center for the Arts, the theatre program produces up to three mainstage productions each season as well as multiple opportunities for performances in the Margaret Jensen Blackbox Theatre. Theatre majors and minors and students of any major from across campus are encouraged to participate in all of the theatre program’s offerings.
The theatre program at Gordon College is one that emphasizes a holistic approach to training. Faculty and staff work alongside students, mentoring and modeling a collaborative and rigorous approach to theatre production. Gordon theatre graduates are equipped for work on-stage, backstage, and beyond the theatre, and embody the ideals of empathy, community, and curiosity to worship God through all creative acts.

Directing at least one mainstage production per year.
Recruiting and retention of theatre majors. This will include interaction with prospective students, guest workshops at schools and festivals, maintaining a professional profile, and working with Dean and Director of Admissions to plan recruiting events.
Providing creative leadership for the theatre program. This will include annual planning of the theatre program’s academic offerings and season calendar in collaboration with the Dean, Operations Manager and Theatre Technical Director, understanding of budgetary considerations, and managing of adjunct faculty hires.
Supporting the student apprenticeship program, working closely with Technical Director who manages the execution of this program.
Developing community engagement and audience development, in collaboration with Administrative Manager on all aspects of theatre marketing and brand development.
Engaging in College, School, and program service. Including but not limited to faculty meetings, student convocations, advising of theatre majors and minors, committee service at discretion of Dean, and adjudication of theatre auditions for prospective students.

MFA in Theatre
Successful experience teaching at the collegiate level
Significant professional and artistic profile as an actor and/or director
A passion for teaching and mentoring undergraduates
A strong commitment to the Christian mission of the college
Strong collaborative and communication skills that cross disciplinary boundaries.
