JOB DESCRIPTION - FULL TIME
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
The assistant/ associate professor will be expected to remain current within the Exercise Science academic discipline and support excellence in teaching and research. In addition to teaching and research, the postholder will also advise students, develop new courses, and serve on various university committees as a full-time, career-track faculty member.
The assistant/ associate professor will be responsible for coordinating educational initiatives including research and evaluation of the curricula, teaching procedures, and educational materials within Exercise Science academic programs. The assistant/ associate professor will work with committees and advisory groups within the university to develop appropriate curricula meeting the needs of students.
RESPONSIBILITIES
TEACHING DUTIES
60% of the time. Teach professional curriculum and general education courses to facilitate student learning in the Health, Leisure and Sport Sciences Department.
5% of the time. Perform evaluation of student learning and adjust instruction accordingly.
10% of the time. Develop and prepare relevant course material and resources, utilizing technology as appropriate.
5% of the time. Conduct faculty tasks and activities i.e. evaluation of grading instruments, course syllabi, gain knowledge of national standards during assessment week and at the faculty in-services for validity and reliability of assessment instruments and the related data.
5% of the time. Participate as a committee member on committees as assigned.
5% of the time. Provide advisement to students and maintain an office schedule that provides access and supports student learning.
Adhere to the FERPA regulations as pertains to the handling of student records and information.
ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES
5% of the time. Provide feedback to academic support services concerning student retention and success by monitoring and reporting weekly on student academic progress - submitting grades in D2L every week.
GENERAL
5% of the time. Attend and participate in appropriate faculty, staff, committee, and student meetings. Attend professional training needed to remain current in the professional field. Attend and participate in local, state, and national meetings, conferences and events as needed.
Perform other reasonable duties as assigned by the Chair of the Health, Leisure, and Sport Sciences Department or designee.
REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION: Minimum Qualification: Terminal degree from an accredited institution in an academic field related to Exercise Science (for example, Exercise Physiology, Human Performance, Kinesiology, or others)
EXPERIENCE/ SKILLS/ ABILITIES:
Experience teaching successfully at the university level.
Demonstration of excellence interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
Committed to the education of diverse populations.
Evidence of at least one publication in a peer-reviewed journal in a field related to Exercise Science.
Ability to build and motivate team members and ensure group cohesiveness of a team.
Knowledge of working with students in a distance or online learning environment.
Ability to use computer software to conduct literature reviews and technical research.
Works independently with little direct supervision.
Accepts responsibility and is self-motivated.
Displays effective multi-tasking and time management skills with attention to detail.
Possesses strong student-centered focus, with a commitment to student success and satisfaction.
Maintains a high level of confidentiality of work-related information.
