The Music Department at Simpson University invites applications for a full-time faculty member beginning Spring 2025. As the Director of Bands, the successful candidate will be able to provide energetic, servant leadership over the development and recruitment of our newly created band ensembles that will include Simpson University's inaugural marching band. Besides the wind and jazz ensembles, the Music Department includes a redesigned bachelor's degree program that emphasizes, Christian worship arts, digital music technology, and instrumental/vocal ensembles. Additionally, the successful candidate should be prepared to teach courses in music theory, music recording and technology, songwriting, and/or music history. A commitment to faith integration into teaching, scholarship, and service at a Christian liberal arts institution is an essential quality of Simpson University faculty.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide effective administrative leadership over music programming for the college
Directs all aspects of the Simpson University bands, including recruiting, arranging, program development, performance planning, and fundraising.
Develop and recruit extensively for the inaugural marching band as well as the full band program that will also include pep, concert, and jazz band.
Organize and conduct effective music ensemble rehearsals
Provide visionary leadership and coordination for music performances on campus and in the community, including performances at university athletic events.
Prepare and teach courses in contemporary songwriting, world music, and music history; the ability to teach courses in computer music technology, and studio recording is also desirable.
Conduct private music instruction on individual's primary instrument(s).

Qualifications:
An earned doctoral degree in music; master's degree with 18 or more graduate units in music will also be considered.
Wind, brass, and/or percussion specialist with knowledge of instrumental music, arrangement, and band presentation
Evidence of excellent band pedagogy and methods
Experience in recruitment for band and music programs is essential
Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays
Experience teaching music recording and computer music technology, or professional experience in the recording industry is a plus.
Experience working with a diverse student population and a commitment to inclusion and equity
A personal commitment to Christ and faith integration at a Christian liberal arts institution is essential
