Anderson University and the College of Education invite applications for a full-time, nine-month position in the College of Education to serve as Assistant/Associate Professor of Secondary English Education in the Department of Educational Specialties. This faculty member will teach primarily in the undergraduate programs in English education, including Secondary Literacy courses designed to meet the state of South Carolina’s Read to Succeed requirements. The department also has opportunities for well-qualified applicants to teach in elementary literacy. The College of Education enrolls 600+ students, employs 15 full-time faculty members, and is supported by 8 staff members, in addition to part-time faculty and staff members. The College of Education’s traditional undergraduate programs follow an in-person format with courses taught on the main campus in Anderson and further offers coursework for master’s, specialist, and Doctor of Education (EdD) programming taught from the University Center in Greenville, SC. Anderson University is an innovative, entrepreneurial, premier comprehensive, liberal arts university affiliated with the South Carolina Baptist Convention. The university seeks candidates with a strong Christian value system, lifestyle, and commitment to the integration of faith and learning.
Anderson University recognizes three paths for faculty employment: annual appointment, professional path, and tenure track. Faculty hired for annual appointment are evaluated on mission fit, and teaching and learning. They begin employment at the rank of instructor with the opportunity to promote to senior lecturer. Faculty in the Professional Path focus on teaching and learning and are evaluated on mission fit, teaching and learning, and service; and they are able to promote through professorial ranks. After six years of exemplary service, faculty on the Professional Path become eligible for multi-year contracts. Faculty on tenure track focus initially on teaching and learning, but they are evaluated on mission fit, teaching and learning, service, and scholarship. Tenure-track faculty promote through professorial ranks and are eligible for tenure status in year six.
This full-time faculty position requires an earned terminal degree in education (Ph.D.or Ed.D.) and relevant experience in secondary English, both teaching and supervising at both the 9-12 school and at the university level. A minimum requirement of 3 years teaching experience in 9-12th English education is required along with state certification to teach. The preferred candidate will be expected to demonstrate potential for teaching excellence in online and hyflex settings, extensive professional experience, scholarly activity, and an interest in serving the profession. Preference will be given to applicants with backgrounds and qualifications that would allow them to teach in both English education and literacy education, and a sufficient level of scholarship to warrant tenure-track status. Additional consideration will be given to applicants with background and qualifications to support doctoral research in the College’s EdD program. The ideal candidate will also have the ability to develop curriculum and effectively guide students through their advising process. Review of applications will begin immediately with preference given to candidates available to start in August 2025.
This is an on-site, in-person role. To ensure full consideration, please complete the online application for faculty employment (https://andersonuniversity.edu/hr/apply), along with a letter of application, curriculum vita, statement of teaching philosophy, and contact information for three references to coejobs@andersonuniversity.edu.
