Position Summary:
The Director of Clinical Education holds a faculty (academic or clinical) appointment and has administrative, teaching, service, and scholarship responsibilities consistent with the mission and philosophy of the academic program. This individual demonstrates competence in clinical education, curriculum development, and teaching. In addition, the primary responsibilities of the Director of Clinical Education are to plan, coordinate, facilitate, administer, and monitor clinical activities on behalf of the academic program and in coordination with academic and clinical faculty.
The individual in this position serves as a liaison between the MS-SLP Program and the clinical education site as part of his/her responsibilities. In cooperation with other academic faculty, the Director of Clinical Education establishes clinical education site and facility standards, selects and evaluates clinical education sites, and facilitates ongoing development of and communication with clinical education sites and faculty. The preference is that the candidate for this position be available for onsite work at the OBU campus, but the position is eligible for consideration of remote/hybrid work arrangements with the chosen Director of Clinical Education required to be onsite when students are at OBU for specified program tasks.
Qualifications:
Candidates should have a master’s degree or higher (clinical doctorate or terminal degree preferred).
Licensed, or eligible for licensure, as a Speech-Language Pathologist in Oklahoma.
Current ASHA certification as a CCC-SLP.
A minimum of two years of full-time experience as a clinical or academic faculty member in a CAA accredited MS-SLP program.
Applicable experience in clinical leadership (SLP program leadership experience and/or demonstrated successful leadership experience with the CAA accreditation process are preferred).
Knowledge of legislative, regulatory, legal, and practice issues affecting clinical education, students, and the profession of Speech-Language Pathology.
Active in professional activities at local, state, and/or national levels.
Develop, monitor, refine, and assess the clinical education curriculum.
Develop and administer clinical education policies and procedures.
Engage core faculty in clinical education planning, implementation, and assessment.
Assist with budgeting and manage fiscal resources for clinical education.
Maintain and update site selection criteria and utilize feedback for continuous improvement.
Develop clinical experiences during on-campus residencies and tele practice practicum.
Communicate with stakeholders about program updates and changes in healthcare education.
Communicate program philosophy, curriculum details, policies and procedures to clinical educators and students.
Participate in regional, state, and national clinical education events.
Mentor and support student clinicians and clinical educators.
Develop professional development opportunities for clinical faculty and site supervisors.
Clinical Experience Management
Oversee selection, evaluation, and development of clinical education sites and faculty.
Document and assess the clinical education component, including sites and educators.
Ensure compliance with accreditation and educational standards.
Manage student placement, supervision, and assessment in clinical settings.
Serve as a liaison between the program and clinical sites.
Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations and manage clinical education agreements.
Prepare accreditation documentation and monitor student and faculty performance.
Student Clinical Education
Facilitate quality learning experiences for students.
Evaluate student performance to ensure integration of didactic and clinical learning.
Educate students, clinical, and academic faculty about clinical education.
Mentor and advise future clinicians.
Direct and manage clinical practicum seminars, including faculty assignments and student mentoring groups.
Teaching and Education Responsibilities:
Teach courses as assigned and/or agreed upon with institutional leadership.
Integrate faith and learning with a commitment to a Christian worldview.
Scholarship Responsibilities:
Conduct and disseminate research/scholarship activities in accordance with accreditation requirements and institutional policies and procedures.
Service Responsibilities:
Participate in institutional and professional service opportunities in accordance with accreditation requirements and institutional policies and procedures.
