LeTourneau University seeks candidates with a strong Christian faith and a passion for engineering education for the position of Omer Blodgett Endowed Chair of Welding and Materials Joining Engineering. This tenure track position includes Departmental Chair, teaching, and research duties.
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The School of Engineering and Engineering Technology (SEET) at LeTourneau University invites applicants for an endowed, tenure-track faculty chair position in the Department of Welding and Materials Joining Engineering. The School’s programs include an EAC/ABET accredited engineering program with a materials joining concentration and a TAC/ABET accredited program in engineering technology with a materials joining concentration. The School of Engineering and Engineering Technology has over 450 students and 25 full-time faculty, with Materials Joining representing 10% of total enrollment. Much of the hands-on education and research takes place in over 10,000 square feet of recently renovated lab space dedicated to welding and materials joining engineering uses. Responsibilities include serving as the Chair of the Department of Welding and Materials Joining Engineering; leading the department as we pursue the University’s Strategic Plan; supervising faculty; and serving on the leadership team for SEET. Responsibilities also include teaching and research, advising students, and serving on various university committees. Teaching duties include undergraduate and graduate level teaching in Welding Metallurgy, Joining of Advanced Materials, Engineering Analysis of Welding, Joining Processes, and Non-Destructive Evaluation, and supervising master’s students and research teams.
QUALIFICATIONS:
LeTourneau University seeks an individual with an enthusiastic and contagious Christian faith who is committed to teaching, research, and leadership at a small, dynamic Christian University where the integration of faith and academic excellence is paramount. The candidate must be in genuine agreement with the University’s Statement of Faith and Community Covenant for life and work at LeTourneau.
Applicants are invited with expertise in welding engineering, non-destructive evaluation, metal additive manufacturing, computational design/simulation methods, and/or advanced joining and manufacturing processes. Applicants must have a strong commitment to laboratory-based undergraduate and graduate engineering in the areas of Welding Metallurgy, Joining of Advanced Materials, Engineering Analysis of Welding, Joining Processes, Non-Destructive Evaluation, and Advanced Manufacturing Processes. Priority will be given to candidates with a B.S. degree in Materials, Welding, or Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited institution and a Ph.D. in Welding, Metallurgical, or Materials Engineering. The position is for 9 months, with the possibility of summer school teaching. Classes, office hours, and other responsibilities are conducted on weekdays primarily but will include some evening classes and independent studies. Attendance will also be required at some evening and weekend events.
