Point Loma Nazarene University's Multimedia Journalism Program invites applicants for a tenure-track position in journalism, with an expected start in Fall 2024. Primary teaching responsibilities will be in undergraduate courses in the multimedia journalism major and minor. The journalism program is part of a larger Department of Literature, Journalism, Writing, Languages and Environmental Studies. The focus in the multimedia journalism program is on storytelling at all levels -- from social media to long-form.

Salary: PLNU pays its faculty using a payscale based on experience and academic rank. Faculty salaries using this scale for a 2-semester appointment range from $69,630 to $113,916. The actual salary will be based on the experience, rank, and appointment term of the candidate selected to fill this position.
We are seeking innovative teachers/practitioners who have expertise in areas such as data, broadcast, and multimedia journalism. We seek candidates who have experience in practicing journalism in the field and teaching journalism. Experience in environmental journalism is a bonus. In addition to teaching and research, the appointee must contribute to the life of the university through service, advising and mentoring students, and helping advance strategic efforts at the department, school and university levels. In addition to journalism courses, the appointee may (according to background and interests) also teach courses in our school's Communication Studies department related to its digital and broadcast media program, courses in the Environmental Studies program, as well as courses in first-year composition.
Professional Qualifications: • Education: An MA degree is the minimum requirement with experience in journalism, Ph.D. preferred. The position requires both a teaching and research/publishing commitment. • Experience: The position requires a commitment to developing and maintaining teaching excellence. A typical load includes 24 units of teaching per year.
Responsibilities: • Teach 24 units annually. • Conduct scholarly research, and/or pursue one's own journalistic practice, with the opportunity to mentor undergraduate students. • Advise students. • Participate in departmental activities and governance. • Serve on faculty committees and perform other normal faculty duties. • Off-campus community engagement. Engage with local community.
