Concordia University Chicago (CUC) invites applications for a full-time faculty member in Strategic Communication to begin in the 2023-2024 academic year. The area of strategic communication in our program addresses how organizations and institutions communicate with the public to achieve their goals. The successful candidate will be mission oriented and committed to excellence in teaching at the undergraduate level, and potentially graduate level in the future, developing a program of scholarly research, and participating in service to the university, profession, and community.

Responsibilities/Duties:
Instructs undergraduate students in the discipline of communication, including courses such as Social Media and Public Relations, Communication Research, Organizational and Team Communication, Business Communication, Advanced Public Speaking, and Media Literacy
Develops a program of scholarly research and service that that integrates content pertaining to social media, public relations, and persuasive communication
Advises Communication majors, oversees internship placement, supervises senior projects, and provides hands-on instruction
Provides leadership for the area of Strategic Communication, including the design and teaching of new curriculum
Synthesizes practical instruction with critical studies, aiming for majors to have a wide-range of paths after graduation as professionals, practitioners and scholars
Candidates must support and be committed to the mission and identity of Concordia University Chicago, a university of the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod (LCMS)
Skill Sets:
Scholarly knowledge of the research and theory in communication studies with some knowledge in Media Communication and multi-media skills
Capacity to teach undergraduate- and graduate-level courses in both face-to-face and online modalities
Capacity to develop and organize programs of study that are consistent with College of Business and accreditation standards
Ability to work with colleagues from across the campus to advance the mission of the College of Business and of Concordia University Chicago
A service mentality toward all stakeholders, particularly with students
A demonstrated commitment to teaching excellence
Strong administrative skills, including related computer and technology skills
Superior verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
Enthusiastic supporter of Lutheran higher education and Concordia University Chicago
Minimum Experience Required:
Prior professional experience in research and theory in communication studies is required
3 years' experience teaching in a higher education setting is preferred
Education Requirements:
A minimum of an MBA, MFA, or MA in a communication-related field is required
An earned doctorate in Communication or a Communication-related field is preferred
Undergraduate certification or colloquy completion as a professional church worker in the LCMS is preferred
