Mount Vernon Nazarene University (MVNU) is an intentionally Christian teaching university for traditional age students, graduate students, and working adults who seek opportunities to learn and grow in an academic community of faith. The University seeks a full-time, 12-month, Director of Human Resources for its Human Resources Office on the Mount Vernon main campus. The position reports to the Vice President of Finance and is available immediately, upon appointment of a successful candidate. A full complement of benefits is provided, including a health care plan, retirement contributions and tuition assistance (self and dependents). The candidate will also receive generous holidays, and vacation and sick days earned on an accrual basis.
Responsibilities for this position include:
Embracing best practices and continuous improvement of HR policies and practices in order to resource the university in fulfilling its mission
Overseeing a department of staff professionals
Proactively seeking personal and HR staff training to ensure compliance with the latest laws and regulations
Coordinating new hire transition details
Assessing and promoting training programs for University personnel as needed to increase effectiveness and efficiency
Presenting timely HR-related information to the campus community with conciseness and clarity
Developing, promoting, and monitoring the evaluation process of Staff employees
Full familiarity, review, and management of the institutional self-insured health insurance and other benefit programs
Managing the defined contribution retirement program, including interface with auditors and certification of annual reports
Overseeing Workers Compensation claims and return-to-work programs
Overseeing disability leaves, wage garnishments, terminations, legal violations by employees, and compliance with the University code of conduct
Forecasting employee benefit expenses and budgeted cost of personnel
Maintaining internal controls over payroll and benefit disbursement and administration
Overseeing and certifying all reporting to governmental and insurance organizations
Serve as a sounding board and conflict manager for issues involving employees
Serve as a resource to the Senior Leadership Team
Various other duties, as determined by the scope of the position and the direction of the VP of Finance
Qualifications Required:
Evangelical Christian statement of faith, experience and mission fit
Demonstrated experience counseling employees, with the ability to be compassionate, approachable, and understanding
Ability to maintain confidentiality
Demonstrated success developing employees through assessment and training
An understanding of the perspectives that are unique to faculty, staff and administrators in a private higher education institution
Understanding of ADA, OSHA, DOL, Civil Rights, and other regulations
Demonstrated progressive responsibilities as a manager in a mid-sized organization
Proficiency with the Microsoft Office products
Experience with an employment database system (Ellucian/Colleague preferred)

Ability to lift 25 lbs
