Position Purpose and Summary
Reporting to the Senior Vice President for Enrolment, Career, and Personal Development, the Director of the Center for Calling & Career Development (The Centre) plays a key role in ensuring graduates of TWU are equipped for lives of vocational stewardship. Within The Centre, the Director oversees strategic planning, staff management, resource stewardship, interdepartmental integration and external partnerships. The Director leads efforts to nurture purposeful relationships with employers, faculty, staff, alumni, parents, and student leaders, providing resources and experiences to equip students to think truthfully, act justly, live faithfully, for the good of the world and the glory of God.
Key Areas of Accountability
Leadership
- Determines goals, priorities, budget and staffing needs, and activities to achieve measurable vocational preparation for students.
- Ensures team alignment between university mission and the work of The Centre.
- Engages with leaders across campus to develop an integrated approach to calling and career development.
- Monitors the effectiveness of the team, including structure, personnel, compensation, titles and job descriptions.
Innovation
- Committed to ongoing understanding of the world of work and the career competencies required across relevant career fields.
- Supports strong employer connections by engaging with alumni and other partners to ensure students are prepared for opportunities in relevant industries and geographic regions.
- Implement best practices in delivery of career education to students and alumni, including content generation, introducing new technology and vendor solutions, initiating innovative programs that reflect the changing economy and job market.
Communication
- Collaborates with staff and faculty in order identify ways to expand career development beyond The Centre.
- Works with Marketing and Institutional Research staff members in developing materials, including annual report and outcomes data presentations for internal and external stakeholders.
- Represents The Centre at on-campus and off-campus events (recruitment, orientation, alumni, employer relations events).
- Inspires others in the concept of vocational stewardship within the context of TWU’s Vision Statement.

Skills and Abilities
- Commitment to and skill in strategic planning, goal setting, visioning, project management, innovation, communication, teaching methods, and implementation.
- Excellent public speaking, writing, and communication skills.
- Knowledge of the academic environment, theories of experiential learning, evidence-based practices in career development, and the understanding of entry-level employment market strongly preferred.

Standards & Requirements
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree (ideally, liberal arts) required; M.A. in related field preferred
Experience:
- 5+ years of management experience, ideally involving professional engagement with liberal arts students or recent college graduates, with a demonstrated ability to lead a team.
