The successful candidate for this faculty position in the Department of Bible Exposition at Dallas Theological Seminary will assume the full responsibility of a tenure-track teaching professor at the DTS Dallas (or possibly Houston) campus, with one course a semester usually taught at an external campus. In accordance with the mission of the Seminary and the Bible Exposition Department, this individual will seek to prepare godly servant leaders for a lifetime of study, exposition, and application of the Scriptures.  Faculty members support the educational process by not only teaching but also by advising students, serving on committees, addressing projects as assigned, and by assisting at strategic events.

It is desired that the candidate should have an established Bible-teaching ministry of speaking at churches, conference, camps, etc.

Distinctives of the Bible Exposition Department

The Bible Exposition (BE) Department exists historically at DTS out of a commitment of its founders to ground all of the Seminary’s students in all 66 books of the Word of God. This perspective is distinct among most academic departments of Biblical Studies at seminaries.  The goals of the BE Department at DTS include aiding the student:

• to discover the unifying message of each book and how the various parts of a book support this message,
• to demonstrate how the message of each book contributes to the overall biblical theology of the Scriptures,
• to develop a consistent, literal, grammatical, historical, literary, and theological approach to Scripture, and
• to guide students into an understanding of valid applications of Scripture.

This is done with a primary focus on the biblical text while still seeking to be versed in the current issues of academic research.

Academic Responsibilities

• Teach a full-time load (18 credit hours per academic year)
• Be prepared to teach any of the seven required departmental courses (see catalog) as well as selective elective courses according to departmental criteria.
• Be fully supportive of the mission, goals, and methods of the Bible Exposition.
• Any applicate should carefully read the Bible Exposition portion of the catalog to ensure complete agreement with the purpose and methodology of this department.
• Participate in Distance Education programs as assigned to complete teaching responsibilities.
• Maintain required office hours (4 per week) and be available for student mentoring and advising as assigned.
• Supervise theses and dissertations in the department as assigned.
• Participate in PhD exams and dissertation defenses as assigned.
• Make progress toward tenure and promotions as indicated in the Faculty Handbook.
• Represent the Department and the Seminary in research and publication.
• Represent DTS in ministering the Word in churches and conferences.

Administrative Responsibilities

• Attend weekly faculty meetings on the DTS campus.
• Participate in weekly department meetings.
• Participate in student orientation, preview days (recruitment), and other events involving the faculty.
• Attend chapel programs, the annual Faculty Workshop (mid-August) and Commencement (mid-May).
• Serve on faculty committees as assigned.

• The candidate must have a completed academic terminal degree (either a PhD or ThD, not a DMin) in biblical studies (preferably with an emphasis on exposition or biblical theology).
• The candidate must be in full agreement in beliefs, teaching, and writing with the seminary’s doctrinal statement. The candidate must also affirm in beliefs, teaching, and writing the seminary’s statement on marriage and human sexuality; statement on unity, diversity, and community; statement on men and women learning together and statement of educational philosophy.
• The candidate must be committed to living by the lifestyle standards stated in the Faculty Handbook.
• The candidate must have proven experience in ministry (ten years or more preferred) and have a strong conviction of value of expositional teaching/preaching with a clear passion for both pastoral ministry and theological education.
• The candidate must have experience demonstrating an ability to teach in higher theological education.
• The candidate be able to work as a member of a team of colleagues.
