The successful candidate for this faculty position in the Department of Missiology and Intercultural Ministries (MIM) at Dallas Theological Seminary will assume the full responsibility of a tenure-track teaching professor at the DTS Dallas campus, with the possibility of courses occasionally taught at an external campus. In accordance with the mission of the Seminary and the MIM Department, this individual will seek to prepare godly servant leaders for a lifetime of study, exposition, and application of the Scriptures. MIM Department faculty members support the educational process by not only teaching but also by actively living as missionaries on and around the DTS campus and in the local community, advising students, serving on committees, addressing projects as assigned, and by assisting at strategic events.

Academic Responsibilities 

• Teach a full-time load (18 credit hours per academic year).
• Be prepared to teach any of the required departmental courses as well as selective elective courses according to departmental criteria.
• Be prepared to adapt and equip students for ministry in both international and home context ministries.
• Participate in Distance Education programs as assigned to complete teaching responsibilities.
• Supervise theses and dissertations in the department as assigned.
• Participate in doctoral exams and dissertation defenses as assigned.
• Make progress toward tenure and promotions as indicated in the Faculty Handbook.
• Be fully supportive of the mission, goals, and methods of the Missiology and Intercultural Ministries Department.
• Represent the Department and the Seminary in research and publication.
• Represent DTS by ministering at outside conferences, camps, and churches.

 Administrative Responsibilities

• Participate in weekly department meetings.
• Attend weekly faculty meetings on the DTS campus.
• Maintain required office hours (four per week) and be available for student mentoring and advising as assigned.
• Participate in student orientation, recruitment events, and other events involving the faculty.
• Attend chapel programs, the annual Faculty Workshop (mid-August) and Commencement (mid-May).
• Serve on faculty committees as assigned.

Requirements

• The candidate must have a completed terminal degree (either a PhD, ThD, DMiss, or DIS, not a DMin) in missiology, intercultural studies, anthropology, or equivalents.
• The candidate must be in full agreement in beliefs, teaching, and writing with the seminary’s doctrinal statement. The candidate must also affirm in beliefs, teaching, and writing the seminary’s statement on marriage and human sexuality; statement on unity, diversity, and community; statement on men and women learning together and statement of educational philosophy. The candidate must be committed to living by the lifestyle standards stated in the Faculty Handbook.
• The candidate must have proven experience in a missions-oriented ministry (ten years or more preferred).
• The candidate must have a strong conviction for living a life of active missiological engagement with a clear passion for creating communities marked by the safety and vulnerability found only in Jesus and his gospel.
• The candidate must view actively living as a missionary on and around the DTS campus and local community as an integral part of equipping students to live on mission. The title “missionary” should describe the present tense life of the faculty member while at DTS.
• The candidate must belong to and actively engage in a local community of Christ followers.
• The candidate must have experience demonstrating an ability to teach in higher theological education and be able to work as a committed member of a unified and interdependent department team.
