Bluefield University is actively seeking an experienced, visionary, and innovative professional to assume the role of Provost and Chief Academic Officer.
Bluefield University is a Christ-centered learning community developing servant leaders to transform the world. The University, now in its 100th year of fulfilling its Christian educational mission in Central Appalachia, believes in and is committed to the liberal arts tradition of education in combination with delivering a number of market-driven professional degree programs. With the main residential campus being in Bluefield, Virginia, the University also delivers its Master of Arts in Biomedical Sciences in Blacksburg, Virginia, on the campus of the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine (VCOM). With the newly formed relationships with VCOM and the Appalachian College of Pharmacy, the University is advancing its offerings of health science programs and certifications. In addition to offering more than 40 academic programs at the associate, baccalaureate, and master’s degree levels through flexible online programs, the traditional on-campus experience, and professional graduate programs, the University aspires to develop and deliver doctoral programs in the near future.
The Provost is the Chief Academic Officer of the University, second in responsibility only to the President, and reports to the President and shall have such powers and duties as the President shall designate from time to time with the concurrence of the Board of Trustees. The Provost is an active participant in the administration of the University and serves on the senior leadership team and works closely with the Board of Trustees and students. The Provost provides leadership and management to all academic units and ensures consistent quality standards in curriculum and programs that meet the learning needs of students. The Provost represents the academic program areas of the University to all constituent groups and serves in the role of chief academic planning officer and ensures compliance with various accreditation agencies, as well as Federal and State regulations.
The successful candidate will exemplify a strong Christian faith, a commitment to the Christian mission of the University, as well as a commitment to actively promoting its vision, mission, and values; an earned doctorate; significant teaching and administrative experience; demonstrated achievement in teaching at the undergraduate or graduate level; appropriate scholarship and publications; understanding of the intricacies of the traditional, online, and graduate programs; budget management skills; excellent communication skills; demonstrated ability to work with administrators, faculty, students, and other constituent groups; and appreciation for shared governance.
