For nearly 40 years, Redeemer University has stood out across Canada for its commitment to a Christian undergraduate liberal arts and sciences education that develops the whole person. Located on a beautiful 86-acre campus in Hamilton, Ontario, Redeemer operates under a charter from the Government of Ontario and is a member of Universities Canada (UC), the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities (CCCU), and the Canadian Council of Christian Charities (CCCC).
Reporting to the Art Director in the Marketing department, the Media Specialist is responsible for creating video and photographic content for the university to be used across marketing and communications platforms externally and internally. The Media Specialist will create finished video, photo and graphic assets into usable media for print and digital platforms, manage the institution’s YouTube and Vimeo accounts, and directly contribute to Athletics (Royals) marketing platforms and social media channels.
Attend institutional, academic, athletic and student events to capture video/photo assets for use in a variety of mediums
Record interviews or messages from students, faculty and staff
Coordinate video projects that may include assistance from students, staff or external partners
Create promotional video content for various departments (athletics, marketing and communications, admissions, donor relations, etc.)
Create finished video, photo and graphic assets into usable/shareable media for print and digital platforms.
Capture still images for print collateral, news stories, redeemer.ca, the Redeemer App and social media channels.
Help the marketing team manage digital archives of photo and video assets
Design graphics with visual assets, primarily for social media applications.
Support the Marketing and Communications team with content for social media.
Share management and develop strategies with the Sports Information Coordinator (SIC) for Royals social media and other brand and marketing initiatives for the Royals.
Manage the Youtube and Vimeo platforms for Redeemer, developing strategies to expand and enhance it’s reach, including working towards channel monetization.
Occasional writing and other support for Athletics stories, game recaps, advertising and social media posts.
Preferred Skills and Attributes:
Knowledge and experience with photo/video equipment and software editing tools.
Creative and technical skill in capturing high-quality visual assets and editing them into polished and usable content for the web and print.
Interpersonal and networking skills, and a customer service attitude, to engage a number of different internal and external constituencies
Familiar with the mission of the institution in order to create videos that reflect the Redeemer brand and tradition.
Experience in writing and producing print and digital content (web, social media) for organizations, preferably missional or non-profit institutions.
Experience using web and social media platforms to communicate to a variety of audiences.
Understanding digital marketing principles and best practices.
Organizational skills for timely execution of projects and communication plans.
Bachelor’s degree in digital media, communications, or a synonymous discipline or an applied Bachelor’s degree from an accredited College in a similar discipline
2 years of professional experience in a similar role.
Experience in digital content for missional or non-profit organizations is desired.
