CCCU institutions are located around the world. Though they are diverse in size, scope, and mission, they are each committed to faith-integrated higher education.
Required Experience * Seven years of experience in major gifts fundraising and team leadership, preferably within a higher education or comparably complex non-profit environment. * Proven success leading a disciplined moves management strategy with a portfolio of 120 individuals or more. * Demonstrated success discovering, cultivating, and soliciting major gifts of $25,000 and above. * Success soliciting and closing major gifts, blended gifts, and revocable/irrevocable estate and planned gifts. * Familiarity with Estate Planning instruments, products, principles, and marketing programs, and success integrating gift and estate planning into a comprehensive major gifts program. * Thorough knowledge of development principles and a record of accomplishment in managing a major gift program. * Experience collaborating with academic and administrative leadership to define strategic projects and initiatives, drafting cases for support, developing engagement experiences and events. * A high level of professional and spiritual maturity, judgment and decisiveness to motivate fellow staff and volunteers, and to inspire confidence among donor prospects. * Strong administrative and systems experience. * Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Primary Duties/Essential Functions
Spiritual and Servant Leadership * Live out the God First mission of APU, exemplifying Christ-like servant leadership and character required of senior leadership that advances the mission of APU and promotes the development and welfare of the Advancement team. * Demonstrate personal spiritual maturity, integrity, sound personal and professional judgement, and the ability to lead from an ever-deepening faith and character.
Institutional Leadership * With the VP, collaborate with academic, administrative, and athletic leaders to shape Renewal initiatives and develop major gift fundraising strategies to achieve Renewal * With the VP, engage select major donors with the President, Deans, and other administrative leaders, aligning donor interests and capacity with institutional Renewal * With the VP, build fundraising capacity through the institutional advancement model that equips and assists academic, administrative, and athletic leaders for effective major gift fundraising. * Assist the VP in leveraging fundraising capacity through collaboration with the Advancement Committee of the Board of Trustees. * Participate in Leadership Summits.
Advancement Department Leadership * Serve as a member of the Advancement Leadership Team (ALT), which is responsible for setting and implementing Advancement department programs, strategies, goals, and metrics. * Assist in planning effective programming and details for current and prospective major donor engagement events, retreats, and trips each year aligned with Renewal * Serve on the Dinner Rally Committee to plan the annual Dinner Rally fundraising event. * Coordinate with the Office of Alumni and Parent Engagement, and the Prospect Development Team to identify and build a robust pipeline of qualified major donor prospects for current, planned, and estate gifts. * Collaborate with the Annual Giving and Stewardship teams to increase donor acquisition, retention, and long-term loyalty that expands the donor base at all levels. * Assist the Vice President in defining, implementing and adjudicating major gift acceptance policies.
Development Officer Team Leadership * Manage the Director/Senior Director of Development who will provide leadership to the Development Officer team. * Create and establish an annual plan with specific goals and timetables, to raise major gifts within the scope of special projects, campaigns, endowment, or annual fund-raising needs, as articulated in Renewal. * Develop an annual plan, strategy, and management metrics and tools for the Development Officers to increase University Fund contributions to $2.3 million. * As player-coach, manage a donor portfolio of 50-75 major donors and high net worth estate and planned giving prospects. * Manage and develop an expanding team of Development Officers (DO’s) instituting a defined moves management strategy, metrics, and goal setting processes. * Provide information for prospect records through appropriate documentation in the form of contact reports and strategy statements housed in the central Raiser’s Edge system. * Provide timely and accurate reports of major gift activity and results to the Vice President and to the Advancement Committee of the Board.
Gift and Estate Planning * Manage the Director of Gift and Estate Planning/Team. * Create and establish an annual plan with specific goals and timetables to raise major and planned gifts within the scope of special projects, campaigns, endowment or annual fund-raising needs, as articulated in Renewal. * Develop and implement integrated strategies, events, and marketing plans to ensure an expanding pipeline of planned giving prospects producing $5 - $10 million annually in revocable and irrevocable planned gifts. * Develop a fundraising and management structure that integrates gift and estate planning into the work of all Development Officers with appropriate training and metrics. * Partner with the VP to develop current and deferred giving strategies to raise $25 million for APU’s endowment by 2027. * Work collaboratively with the Executive Director of Advancement to ensure proper documentation and execution of estate plans, trust management, trust and annuity payments, and business operations related to all estate planning functions.
