Higher Ed Administrative Careers - Clerical/Administrative Support
Required Education * Master’s Degree or Bachelor’s Degree (emphasis in business-related field preferred).
Required Experience * Five years’ experience in program administration, event planning or related experience. * Familiarity with student recruiting, placement and SBM academic programs a plus.
Primary Duties/Essential Functions * Direct, develop, and promote relations between the LP and Timothy Leung School of Accounting (LSA) and CPA firms, corporations, and government and nonprofit entities. * Develop and direct programs for student development, including CPA firm internships and career placement, professional preparation, speaker’s series, recruiting events and other career services activities to prospective undergraduate and graduate students. * Direct LSA student organizations and mentor student leaders. * Track the accounting student internships and full time positions. * Direct and develop alumni relationship programs and activities. Research and analyze data from internal and external sources including alumni, employers and other groups designated as important for program improvement. Serve as liaison between the LSA and other University departments and external vendors as related to student development and alumni relationship needs. * Direct LSA staff: Responsible for the recruitment, training, and supervision of student workers and staff to support the administrative workload of the School. * Oversee the LSA graduate graduation process and coordinate undergraduate graduation process with SBM Director. * Evaluate graduate student files and related transcripts for accuracy. Determine if graduate students have met the necessary requirements for graduation. Assist students with forms, including Internship, senior electing MAcc courses, and Intent to Graduate forms. * Oversee academic advising: Primary responsibility for academic advising of undergraduate accounting students and graduate MAcc students, evaluating transcripts, determining course equivalents admission requirements, including GPA, GMAT, and TOEFL. * Coordinate academic advising appointments and events. * Create and maintain internship contacts with CPA firms. * Host CPA firms on campus. * Assist LSA Chair with developing ways to enhance the reputation and connection of the Accounting School with CPA firms and other entities that hire accounting graduates. * Maintain database of inquiries and prospects and backup data regularly. * Performs other duties related to job description as directed by the Chair of the LSA and the Dean and Associate Dean of the School of Business.
Skills * Strong oral and written communication skills. * Strong word processing and spreadsheet skills. * Strong proofreading and editing skills. * Self-starter, highly motivated with strong organizational skills.
Mental Demands * Ability to exercise independent judgment and discretion. * Able to work under pressure, handle multiple tasks simultaneously, and meet deadlines. * Able to work with little supervision. * Interface effectively with faculty, staff, students and the Professional Accounting Community. * In agreement with the purpose and mission of Azusa Pacific University in providing a Christian-based higher education for its students.
Physical Demands * Intermittent sitting and standing. * Requires repetitive wrist/finger motions with use of computer. * Sitting at keyboard for several hours at a time. * Requires good verbal communication and telephone skills, able to conduct business with other offices on campus and in the community. * Ability to lift, pull, grasp, bend to lower file drawers and reach to top of 5 drawer file cabinets. * Ability to lift up to 20 lbs. occasionally.
Visual Demands * Reading, writing notes, and computer monitor.
Environment * Pleasant office, comfortable temperature.
Technologies * Proficient in Google Mail, Drive, Docs and Apps; Microsoft Office, Word and Excel; Activity Insight; Sedona; Social Media Sites (Facebook & Linked In); Sakai and People Soft.
