Higher Ed Administrative Careers - Facilities/Auxiliary Services
Mount Vernon Nazarene University (MVNU) is an intentionally Christian teaching university for traditional age students, graduate students, and working adults who seek opportunities to learn and grow in an academic community of faith. The University seeks a full-time, 12-month, Director of Facilities & Campus Safety Operations, for the Facilities Department on the Mount Vernon main campus. The position reports to the VP for Finance and is available immediately, upon appointment of a successful candidate. A full complement of benefits is provided including a health care plan, retirement contributions and tuition assistance, each subject to associated waiting periods. The candidate will also receive generous holidays, and vacation and sick days earned on an accrual basis.
Responsibilities for this position include:
Coordinate and supervise the workflow of campus safety, maintenance, grounds keeping, housekeeping, motor pool, purchasing, and repair/renovation as they attend to campus needs
Manage the procurement and maintain an inventory of physical plant equipment, parts, and supplies
Negotiate and monitor contracts for elevator services, energy services, fire protection systems, HVAC systems, and waste removal
Assure compliance with safety and OSHA standards
Develop and monitor the hazardous materials program for MVNU
Develop and administer campus facilities budgets
Maintain up-to-date campus and building plans
Manage motor pool, as well as provide for the maintenance and assist with the replacement of MVNU-owned vehicles
Analyze physical plant needs and determine the best direction for operations, repairs, and utilities
Review the physical plant on a continuing basis for energy efficiency improvements
Consult with campus constituents in the design of new facilities and renovation of existing facilities
Develop and obtain estimates for physical plant projects, in coordination with the Assistant Director of Building Trades
Act as general contractor on selected campus construction or renovation projects, in coordination with the Assistant Director of Building Trades
Serve as a member of the Crisis Response Team
Assists with presentations to the University Resources Committee of the Board of Trustees
Develop reports for the Vice President for Finance, upon request
Other duties, as assigned
Expectations for the successful candidate:
Evangelical Christian statement of faith, experience and mission fit
Bachelor’s degree or managerial experience in engineering, construction management, business administration, architecture, or a closely related field from an accredited college/university; Master’s degree preferred
A minimum of 10 years of supervision and managerial experience in facility operations and management, including experience with delegation and evaluation of personnel preferred
Working knowledge of operating and capital budgets, including the ability to apply this knowledge to fiscal spending plans and long-range forecasting of expenditures
Ability to clearly communicate complex concepts and information, both written and oral, to a general audience
Additional formal training in business administration, particularly in organization, management, finance, accounting, and computer systems/operations preferred
Significant successful experience in all aspects of personnel management
Experience in operations management, construction, renovation projects, and long-range planning preferred
Knowledge of industry trends and experience working within a diverse, higher education facilities environment preferred
Experience in working with regulatory oversight
Knowledge and oversight of NIMS, CLERY, and other Campus Safety requirements
Ability to develop key performance metrics for measuring and verifying operational performance and effectiveness
Ability to distill large amounts of operational performance data into easy-to-understand reports for decision making, improvement strategies, and managing change
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Excellent organization skills
Thorough understanding of facilities operations, including the maintenance and housekeeping functions
Working knowledge and experience performing larger scale construction and renovation estimates
Strong interpersonal skills
Demonstrated ability to be proactive in problem solving
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite
Working knowledge of building systems and regulatory/fire codes
Must be capable of sitting, walking, or standing for long periods of time
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work from heights, when required
Year-round exposure to indoor and outdoor conditions
Must be certified to drive all MVNU vehicles
