The Department of Biology within the School of Mathematics and Sciences at Wayland Baptist University in Plainview, TX invites applications for a full-time position as an Assistant or Associate Professor of Biology. The faculty member will work under the supervision of the Dean of the School of Mathematics and Sciences. Primary teaching responsibilities will include some combination of the following courses: introductory biology for majors and non-majors, vertebrate biology, invertebrate biology and other upper-level courses in the candidate’s specialty. Commitment to directing undergraduates in student-focused interdisciplinary research programs is important. As a faculty member of WBU he/she will represent the University's academic and spiritual emphasis to the students, faculty, staff, and the community in a manner consistent with the University's mission and purpose.
Specific Tasks and Duties of the position:
Teaching a total of 24 workload hours of introductory biology for majors and non-majors, vertebrate biology, invertebrate biology and other courses as needed per academic year.
Maintain a minimum of 10 hours of office hours/week
Advising undergraduate students and assist with registrations and recruiting events
Serve on university, faculty, and school committees; assist with graduations and attend scheduled faculty and staff meetings
Actively engaging in professional development activities.
Assist the Dean and faculty members in developing new programs, writing grants, reporting data, selecting textbooks, and developing syllabi
Mentoring students in appropriate undergraduate-level research projects.
A commitment to and an agreement with the purposes and philosophy of Christian higher education as promoted by the Baptist General Convention of Texas in general and Wayland Baptist University in particular.
Education, Certification and License: An earned Ph.D. in Biology, or closely related discipline.
Experience and Knowledge: Post-doctoral or prior teaching experience preferred.
