Concordia University Chicago invites applications for the full-time, exempt, faculty position of Associate Dean of Students, Vocation and Academic Success. This position reports directly to the Dean of Students and is located in River Forest, IL.
The Associate Dean of Students for Vocation and Academic Success is a dynamic individual who exhibits a vibrant personal faith in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord, displaying Christ-centered servant leadership and a commitment to student success. This individual seeks opportunities to integrate the mission, vision, and core values of Concordia University Chicago into his/her daily work with students, faculty, and fellow staff members.
The Associate Dean of Students for Vocation and Academic Success is a frontline staff member who serves as a key member within the Dean of Students Office; assisting the Dean of Students with various tasks, helping to address student concerns, proactively reaching out to students who may be struggling, and seeking innovative ways to celebrate student success. He/she is proficient both in teaching and advising students at the college level and has a heart for serving students. The Associate Dean of Students for Vocation and Academic Success assists the Dean of Students with the design, implementation, coordination, assessment and improvement of programs, initiatives and interventions to continuously enhance the student experience. The Associate Dean of Students for Vocation and Academic Success has experience with data analysis and assessment and is responsible for running regular reports that serve to inform the University's efforts around student success/retention, academic progress, and re-enrollment initiatives.
The Associate Dean of Students for Vocation and Academic Success directly oversees and has oversight of the following areas: Undergraduate Academic Advising, Study Abroad, First Year Student Success, Career Services, and International Student Services. Undergraduate certification or colloquy completion as a professional church worker in one of the education-related ministries of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod and eligibility for a Divine Call as a Commissioned Minister, is preferred.
Oversee the First Year Success Coach program, which includes recruiting and mentoring 10-12 instructors throughout the academic year.
Provide leadership, support and budget oversight to the Directors of Undergraduate Academic Advising & Study Abroad, International Student Services, and Career Services.
Seek out and hire staff members who are enthusiastic about Lutheran higher education; those who support the mission, vision, and core values of Concordia University Chicago.
Integrate the University's mission, vision, and core values when training new staff members.
Student Success and Retention
Teach 1-2 sections of COL 1995 (Vocation and College Success) each semester.
Assist the Dean of Students with the development, implementation, and assessment of an institution-wide student retention plan.
Assist the Dean of Students with the implementation of comprehensive and innovative strategies for retaining students to graduation or goal completion by creating an extraordinary student experience.
Assist the Dean of Students with undergraduate re-enrollment campaigns; tracking course registration, FAFSA completion, housing applications, and clearing account balances.
Monitor, assess, and interpret student retention and support data and provide regular data/reports and recommendations to stakeholders as needed.
Serve as a key member within the Dean of Students Office; responding to student concerns, proactively reaching out to students who may be struggling, and celebrating student success.
Contribute to the programming at new student orientation events.
Collaborate with retention partners such as Ruffalo Noel Levitz or Education Advisory Board and others.
Serve as a member of the Academic Early Warning Huddle
Enthusiastic supporter of Lutheran higher education and the mission, vision, and core values of Concordia University Chicago.
Proficiency with working on multiple projects and cases simultaneously, setting priorities and meeting deadlines.
Strong knowledge of best practices in retention, advising, study abroad, international student services, academic support/ resources and services.
Experience implementing programs and services geared towards meeting the needs of students from various backgrounds
A sophisticated understanding of how to gather, analyze, and use data to develop and assess programs.
Demonstrate collaborative management and leadership skills.
Excellent oral and written communication skills required.
Excellent organizational skills required.
Ability to maintain strict confidentiality required.
Ability to resolve complex problems required.
Ability to use independent judgment required.
Knowledge of standard software packages and programs (e.g., Microsoft Office).
Experience with Banner, DegreeWorks, and/or Maxient is preferred.
Minimum Experience Required:
Minimum 5 years of experience in higher education administration, teaching, or student affairs.
Master's degree in Higher Education Administration or related field is required.
Compensation and Benefits:
Starting range and faculty rank is dependent upon individual qualifications and experience. Concordia health, disability and retirement plan enrollment is available to full-time employees and their eligible dependents. Tuition benefits are also available for employees and their qualified dependents.
