Higher Ed Administrative Careers - Deans, Higher Ed Administrative Careers - Student Affairs/Student services
Eastern Nazarene College, a fully accredited Christian liberal arts college on Boston’s south shore, is seeking a Dean of Students to support the Student Development Office and the College’s Christian mission by providing primary leadership to the areas of Residential Life, Housing, Student Accountability, and Safety and Security Services.The Dean serves as the Chief Student Conduct Officer for the College.In addition, the Dean will help provide leadership for the Student Development division, and will be responsible for the Division in the Vice President’s absence.The Dean collaboratively manages the College’s First Year Experience Course in coordination with the Center for Student Enrichment and the General Education Committee. The Dean directly supervises three full-time staff: the Director of Safety and Security (Contract Employee), Director of Residential Life, and the Director of Housing and Student Accountability.

Residential Life program development and supervision:
Provides general oversight of the Residential Life program and direct supervision of the Director of Residential Life.
Works with the Director to establish, execute, and review policies and procedures regarding all aspects of the residential experience.
Ensures Residential Life’s strategic vision for residential life programming includes the establishment of guiding principles of best practice and developing student outcomes that guide all residential programming efforts.
Guides the Director in their supervision and development of four graduate assistant resident directors and indirectly approximately 20 resident assistants.
Conducts routine assessment of the Residential Life program to ensure student-centered, data-driven approaches to enhance the student living and learning experience.
Student Housing administration:
Provides general oversight of the Student Housing program and direct supervision of the Director of Student Housing and Accountability.
Works with the Director to establish, execute, and review policies and procedures regarding all aspects of the housing process.
Ensures that student housing time-lines and process are student-centered, well communicated, and coordinated with other offices such as Student Financial Services and Admission.
Reports housing capital needs to the Vice President to be considered in the creating of the annual capital budget.
Student Accountability management and development:
Serves as the College’s Chief Student Conduct Officer.
Provides general oversight of the Student Accountability program and direct supervisor of the Director of Student Housing and Accountability
Works with the Director to establish, execute, and review policies and procedures that guide the student conduct process ensuring fairness, redemptive grace, and consistency for all students engaging the disciplinary process.
Ensures the effective administration of the Student Conduct process through chairs student conduct hearing and working with the Director in the selection and training of Council for Community Responsibility Hearing Officers, maintenance of accurate and complete conduct records, and effective communication of Student Conduct policies, procedures, and services through the delivery of print and online materials.
Conducts routine assessment of the Student Accountability program to ensure student-centered, data-driven approaches to improve the student conduct experience and reflect national best-practice.
Manages all aspects of the Student Handbook review and development process with assistance for the Student Development Office Manager.
Safety and Security oversight:
Manages the implementation of the College’s security services contract including regular communication with the contracting company’s managment.
Works with the Vice President in negotiating the College’s annual security contract.
Provides general oversight of the College’s safety and security efforts and direct supervision of the Director Safety and Security.
Works with the Director to establish, execute, and review policies and procedures regarding all aspects of the Office of Safety and Security.
Conducts routine assessment of Safety and Security to ensure student-centered, data-driven approaches are leveraged to improve the campus safety.
Other Responsibilities and Special Projects:
Administers the First Year Experience course in coordination with Center for Student Enrichment.
Serves on the College’s Safety Committee, Student Retention Committee, and other committees as needed.
Assists in New Student Orientation, particularly in programs related to the Community Covenant, Residence Life, and sessions relating to campus policies.
Collaborates with other Student Development departments and the broader campus community to facilitate a seamless educational experience and foster holistic student development.
Works with the Vice President and the Student Development Leadership Team on the development and implementation of policies, processes, and procedures relevant to student life and administration of the Student Development area.
Other duties as assigned by the Vice President for Student Development
A master’s degree in higher education administration, counseling, or a related field is required, along with a minimum of 5-7 years of experience in increasingly responsible and professional roles related to student life areas.
Experience in student affairs at small, private, liberal arts colleges either professionally or educationally is preferred.
Must have an established record of excellent leadership, mentoring relationships with students, collegial relationships with staff and faculty, and demonstrated integration of best practices in Student Affairs within one or more of the program areas detailed above.
Excellent written and oral communication skills, particularly with students and their parents, are required.
Strong organizational and management skills are also necessary to successfully serve in this capacity.
A strong and vibrant Christian faith that connects to the mission, vision, and values of the college is required.
