Full-time, one-year position, at the rank of assistant professor, beginning September 1, 2021. Subject to approval of funding, this position may convert into a tenure-track position in September 1, 2022. Teaching and advising responsibilities will be in the undergraduate Department of Psychology in the School of Psychology, Family, and Community.
Faculty duties include teaching, mentoring, and advising students, service to the university, as well as establishing an active program of research. Teaching responsibilities may include: Lifespan Development, Community Psychology, Health Psychology, Forensics Psychology, Research Methods, and courses in the applicant's area of expertise.
The ideal candidate for this position possesses a Ph.D., teaching experience at the undergraduate level, and a clearly articulated plan of research with a record of scholarly productivity. Preference will be given to candidates with a research and teaching interest in two or more of the following areas: developmental psychology, health psychology, forensics psychology, social justice, community psychology, or related area.

We welcome candidates who understand the barriers facing women and minorities who are underrepresented in higher education careers (as evidenced by life experiences and educational background), and who have experience in equity and diversity with respect to teaching, mentoring, research, life experiences, or service. More than forty percent of our students are persons of color, and a significant number of our students are first generation college students (see student profile). Thus, applicants who can demonstrate effective mentoring of students from underrepresented backgrounds are especially welcomed.
The School of Psychology, Family and Community (SPFC), of which the Psychology Department is a part, is committed to an intentional and sustained school-wide effort to hire and support a diverse faculty. An example of a structure that is currently in place is the SPFC Diversity Committee, which will provide any new faculty member with relevant support as they acclimate to the department and school.

Additional Salary Information: This is a full-time position with excellent benefits. SPU pays the employee premium for medical, dental, and vision insurance. SPU makes contributions to an employee HSA account and to a retirement account after one year of eligibility in the plan.
