Southeastern University invites applications and nominations for an Assistant Professor qualified to teach undergraduate courses in Composition. Candidates with a terminal degree and a specialization in Composition & Rhetoric/ Creative Writing are preferred. The position is full time for a ten-month academic year. Salary is commensurate with experience and degree held at the time of appointment. A Ph.D. or other terminal degree is preferred, but candidates with a Master’s Degree and significant experience may also be considered. Preference is given to applicants with a track record of quality professional work experience in the field; teaching experience is preferred. The faculty member reports to the Chair, Dean, and ultimately to the Provost. The normal teaching load is 30 credit hours per academic year. The position entails teaching, advising, university and community service, and scholarship.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Teach First-Year Writing (Composition I & II)
Advise and mentor undergraduate students
Serve on department and university committees
Demonstrate professionalism and integrity
Perform additional duties and functions as assigned by the Chair
Earned Ph.D. or MFA
Experience teaching Composition and Creative Writing
Published Creative Writing or Academic Writing
Earned MA with significant experience
Excellent oral and written language skills
Outstanding Christian character
Positive recommendations from previous employers
Evidence of successful experience teaching and mentoring at the collegiate level • Ability to work effectively with diverse populations
