Mount Vernon Nazarene University (MVNU) is an intentionally Christian teaching university for traditional age students, graduate students and working adults who seek opportunities to learn and grow in an academic community of faith. The University seeks a full-time, 12-month, Director of Student Financial Services for its Enrollment Management Division on the Mount Vernon main campus. The position reports to the Associate Vice President for Enrollment Management and is available immediately, upon appointment of a successful candidate. The salary will be commensurate with education and experience. A full complement of benefits are provided including a health care plan, retirement contributions and tuition assistance, each subject to associated waiting periods. The candidate will also receive generous holidays, as well as vacation and sick days earned on an accrual basis.
Responsibilities for this position include:
Plan, organize and administer all financial aid programs for traditional, non-traditional, undergraduate and graduate students
Supervise and direct the Student Accounts operation, integrating its functions into the SFS operation
Manage all federal, state, institutional, and community financial aid programs and ensure that administrative requirements, award processing, and disbursement activities are in compliance with all relevant regulations
Ensure that all required reports are completed accurately and filed on time
Collaborate with traditional and Graduate and Professional Studies (GPS) Enrollment Management operations to assist in meeting University enrollment and retention goals
Prepare presentations and participate in multiple recruitment events and new student orientations
Effect staff collaboration with the Admissions and Retention offices to ensure quality service to prospective and returning students
Forecast and manage amounts budgeted for financial aid, supervise SFS spending and prepare expenditure requests for each budget line
Supervise and coordinate the work of financial aid advisors, specialists, and support staff, along with student accounts staff
Ensure that SFS staff is kept current on financial aid policies and practices related to institutional, state, and federal aid requirements
Conduct regular, ongoing training of SFS staff in customer service, technology, team building, and professionalism
Ensure quality customer care by staff in response to incoming emails and telephone calls, visitor needs, and written correspondence
Implement best practices in the use of Financial Aid and Student Accounts modules in Ellucian Colleague
Other duties as assigned
Expectations for the successful candidate:
Evangelical Christian confession of faith and commitment to evangelical Christian ministry in the Wesleyan tradition, and Christian liberal arts higher education
Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university (Masters degree preferred)
Extensive financial aid and student accounts experience, including non-traditional operations
Knowledge of financial aid systems, including awarding and billing, along with expertise with federal and state regulations
Experience with the Federal Direct Student Loan program
Proven leadership, communication, and management experience
Reputation for being highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of multi-tasking in a fast-paced environment
Strong technology skills including extensive use of financial aid software and Microsoft Office
Demonstrated interpersonal/public relations/diplomacy and public speaking skills
Ability to develop a cohesive team
Ability to handle sensitive material confidentially and professionally
Clear desire to help students succeed in the university setting
Experience with Ellucian Colleague student information system (preferred)
Ability to lift 25 lbs
