Functions of the Position
The primary function of the position is to support and provide leadership and management for the Resident Director staff in conjunction with the vision and mission of Residential Life and Housing. Area Coordinators serve on the Leadership Team for the department and broader Student Development sector. A Coordinator provides direct supervision of the Resident Director staff and indirect supervision of the paraprofessional staff (e.g., senior resident assistants, resident assistants). Key duties include, but are not limited to:
Mentoring, training, and professional development of Resident Directors
Oversight and support during crises
Coordination of departmental projects and committee leadership (committees include: Intercultural Care, Events and Programming, Student Staff Training and Hiring, and Professional Development)
Assistance with applicable campus-wide programming
Addressing matters of discipline
Serve on an on-call rotation to provide support to Resident Directors after hours
Perform other duties consistent with the purpose of the position as assigned and determined by departmental supervisors
The Area Coordinator is expected to keep office hours in accordance with departmental expectations and may need to work after hours due to the nature of the job. The Area Coordinator’s workday is flexible with appropriate approval. The Area Coordinator reports directly to the Assistant Director of Residential Life and reports generally to the Director of Residential Life and Housing.
This is an eleven-month, live-on position with each coordinator assuming responsibility for three to four Resident Directors and their residence halls.
Qualifications a. Master’s degree preferred in student development, higher education, or a related field
Strong communication and administrative skills
Desire to develop and invest in the Resident Director team, the paraprofessional staff, and students across campus
A strong and demonstrated commitment to the Christian faith in a manner consistent with the Lee University mission
At least two years of previous experience in residential life (or comparable field) with additional experience in supervising full-time or paraprofessional staff preferred
