Director of Residence Life

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Director of Residence Life (DRL) provides strategic vision and leadership for the Offices of Residence Life, Housing, and Student Conduct.  The DRL oversees administration, programming, staff supervision, residential education, crisis management, building management, and 4-year discipleship plan programming for approximately 1,000 students in five residence halls. This position supervises five resident directors, the Assistant Director of Housing, and the Student Services Coordinator. The DRL reports to the Vice President for Student Affairs and Campus Operations (VPSACO) and serves as a core member of the Student Affairs Leadership Team.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Design and implement a vibrant residential experience that supports the University’s mission.
• Develop an environment of meaningful connections for students which promotes academic success, high student satisfaction, and student engagement, persistence, success, and degree completion.
• Provide visionary, strategic, innovative, and flexible leadership for the Residence Life team in providing student development for all residential students through intentional programming, mentoring and implementation of Vanguard’s 4-year discipleship plan learning outcomes within Residence Life. 
• Oversee all operational elements of the Residence Life department including facility administration, educational programming, legacy programs, staff development, and recruitment of student leaders and program and personnel evaluation.
• Create an inclusive environment that promotes the success and persistence of students from all diverse backgrounds.
• Direct all departmental operations and formulate and recommend policies pertaining to residence life, housing, and student conduct to the VPSACO including annual revisions to Residence Life manuals and the Student Handbook to accurately describe current policy and procedures.
• Evaluate, implement, and manage the housing and residence life budget including fiscal oversight.
• Conduct qualitative and quantitative evaluations for Residence Life, Housing and Student Conduct programs and activities to ensure excellent service, educational effectiveness, and progress on student learning outcomes. 
• Oversee assessment efforts within Student Life for the 4-year discipleship plan.
• Coordinate professional development and training for Residence Life staff and Resident Assistants in topics including crisis management, student care, student mentoring, program development and identifying the needs of various student groups.
• Develop and implement emergency response protocol and program for the residence facilities in conjunction with the Director of Campus Public Safety.
• Coordinate the daily duty and on-call schedule for Resident Directors.
• Oversee the student conduct process in collaboration with designated university faculty and staff members.
• The DRL or designee serves on the following university committees: Safety Committee, Risk Management Committee, Title IX Committee, Student Success and Retention Committee, and chairs the Student CARE Committee.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
