The University seeks a full-time Executive Director of Development for the University Relations division on the Mount Vernon main campus. This position reports to the Vice President for University Relations and is available immediately, upon appointment of a successful candidate. A full complement of benefits is provided including a health care plan, retirement contributions and tuition assistance, each subject to associated waiting periods.  The candidate will also receive generous holidays, and vacation and sick days earned on an accrual basis.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Leads the Development team in planning and implementing long- and short-term strategies to secure gifts from individuals and organizations through major, planned and annual gifts
  • Working with the Vice President for University Relations (VP), establishes measurable goals to increase fundraising results that are both aspirational and achievable
  • Maintains a portfolio and solicits major and planned gifts
  • Ensures successful implementation of a planned giving program
  • Provide strategic guidance to the implementation of the Development Office Customer Relationship Management system, Raiser’s Edge NXT
  • Sets direction and gives guidance to stewardship program to recognize donors in effective and meaningful ways
  • Provides direction, leadership, and goals for research and prospect management
  • Conducts research and oversees proposal writing to secure privately and publicly funded grants for agencies, general operations, and capital projects
  • In consultation with the VP and staff, establishes and adheres to annual operating budgets and ensures programs are operating in a fiscally prudent and productive way
  • Mentors, trains, supervises, and evaluates Development team members
  • Keeps abreast of current best practices in the Development profession and evaluates new and emerging ideas for potential implementation at MVNU
  • Helps develop and administer policies related to fundraising and gift stewardship in collaboration with the VP
  • This position will have direct supervision of the following positions; Director of the Annual Fund, Director of Major and Planned Gifts, Assistant Director of Development, Campus Events Manager and support staff

Expectations for the successful candidate:

  • Evangelical Christian statement of faith, experience and mission fit
  • Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree preferred
  • Knowledge of, and expertise in, the principles and techniques of development
  • Ability to develop, implement and execute a yearly strategic plan for the annual giving program
  • Ability to procure and increase gifts from alumni and donors
  • Ability to administer a departmental budget
  • Ability to clearly communicate with diverse audiences of all sizes
  • Proven ability to successfully coach other staff
  • Capacity for a flexible schedule
  • Knowledge of Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge NXT system preferred
  • Expertise in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Must be capable of sitting, walking or standing for long periods of time and be able to lift items of approximately 50 pounds
