LeTourneau University Provost & Vice President for Academic Affairs Job Description
A university search committee commissioned by President Dr. Steven Mason is seeking a Provost & Vice President for Academic Affairs at LeTourneau University. The second highest-ranking administrator at the university, the Provost & VPAA serves as a member of the President’s Cabinet (executive leadership team) and is the chief academic officer; overseeing the entire academic program of the university. And, in coordination with the Vice President for Student Life, the Provost & VPAA ensures a vibrant partnership between the curricular and co-curricular programs of the institution.
The Provost must embody and articulate the character and purposes of the university as stated in our Purpose Statement and lived out within our community by our Statement of Faith & Community Covenant. This individual must be animated by an authentic and vital personal Christian faith and an excitement about the Christian, polytechnic education of LeTourneau University.
Plan and lead the administration of the academic initiatives of the Strategic Plan
Provide strategic direction and oversight for the university’s seven academic schools and all academic support units (e.g., Library, Registrar, Office of Institutional Research and Sponsored Programs, Accreditation, etc.)
Oversee the recruitment, hiring, and evaluation of all academic deans, academic administrators, and faculty, as well as the tenure and promotion process
Model a deep commitment to the integration of faith and learning
Engage the broader Christian, higher education community as an academic thought leader on behalf of LeTourneau University
An enthusiastic, mature, and contagious Christian faith
Active participation and commitment to a local church body
An earned doctorate, preferably a Ph.D., from a regionally accredited institution
A strong record of scholarly work and excellence in teaching, research, and university leadership
Strong commitment to Christian higher education and the unique academic vision of LeTourneau University
Authentic desire to connect with students, faculty, and staff in ways that encourage thoughtful discussion and healthy relationships
Previous successes in program innovation, fiscal responsibility, growth of academic quality and enrollment, and the management of organizational change
Enthusiasm for meeting the diverse needs of traditional, nontraditional, and dual credit students, along with varying modalities of instruction
Commitment to foster research and scholarship while maintaining the centrality of being a teaching institution
Experience leading collaboratively in a matter that promotes a supportive, responsive, working and learning environment for faculty, staff, and students
Entrepreneurial spirit to academic development that encourages creative thinking, calculated risk-taking, and resourceful innovation
Courageous, empathetic, and collaborative leader with a high emotional IQ and keen sense of humor

The 162 acre main campus is located in Longview, Texas, a progressive hub city with an MSA of 150,000, nestled among the beautiful pine-forested hills and lakes of East Texas. It is approximately 120 miles east of Dallas, Texas and 60 miles west of Shreveport, Louisiana.
