Position Description/Summary: The Southeastern University Department of Music invites applications from energetic and creative individuals for an open position in applied music. Primary responsibilities will be the applied instruction of low brass instruments (trombone, euphonium, or tuba), brass techniques, and teaching in a secondary area relevant to a 21st century music professional. Special consideration will be given to candidates that offer a commercial music, entrepreneurial, or technology background. The successful candidate will be actively engaged in recruiting quality students by conducting outreach in high school programs across the region, as well as maintaining involvement with local, state, and national wind and percussion communities through clinics, adjudication, and performances. Candidates must be committed to excellence in music/music pedagogy and the Christian mission of Southeastern University.
Essential Duties and Functions:
Master’s degree in instrumental performance (Doctorate in instrumental performance preferred).
Demonstrable success in effective studio teaching and student achievement.
Demonstrable success in student recruitment.
Demonstrable success in developing positive relationships with secondary school instrumental directors and community members.
Active involvement in professional organizations at the state, regional, and national level is expected.
The preferred candidate will also engage in continued scholarship to achieve national visibility.
Serving on university and department committees as assigned.
Integrating a Christian worldview throughout the curriculum.
