DEPT: FULLER LEADERSHIP FORMATION DIVISION (LFD) HOURS: 40 PER WEEK PT/FT/TEMP: FULL-TIME EXEMPT STATUS: EXEMPT LOCATION: PASADENA, CA (FULL OR PARTIAL REMOTE CONSIDERED) REPORTS TO: CHIEF OF LEADERSHIP FORMATION DIVISION Brief Description and Background: The Fuller Leadership Platform (or “The Platform”), a mission-driven startup within the Leadership Formation Division of Fuller Theological Seminary, seeks a Head of Product. Fuller’s mission is to provide indispensable formational education to diverse Christian leaders everywhere. The Platform’s unique strategy to accomplish this mission is to empower leaders at scale through premier digital, research-based, formational experiences that catalyze demonstrable Kingdom impact. Essential Functions: - Serve as a key thought partner and close collaborator on major strategic topics (including definition and alignment of the vision, strategy, and roadmap) with the Chief of Leadership Formation and Executive Director of Leadership Formation.
- Collaborate with Platform team, Leadership Formation Division (LFD) colleagues, faculty and staff across Fuller’s two schools, and broader stakeholders on both “what the Platform is” and “how it works,” and provide product and strategic leadership that results in delighted customers.
- Be attentive to faculty and LFD colleague’s interests and priorities, and create synergistic relationships between faculty members and the Platform.
- Own the areas of user research, user-centered design, product strategy, product roadmap and functionality, and user engagement and retention.
- Collaborate with in-house pedagogical experts to translate core customer needs into thoughtfully designed, intuitive products through an iterative learning approach.
- Supervise and develop a team of approximately 8 full-time staff, including Director of User Experience, Content Creators, and Quality Assurance Manager.
- Working alongside LFD leadership, spearhead direction and structures for greater diversity, inclusion, and equity across the Platform’s procedures and offerings.
- Develop strategic partnerships (e.g. vendors) and lead necessary contract negotiations.
- Define and portray the team, customer, and product “stories” visually for donors and partners.
- Guide the production of all necessary wireframes, mockups, prototypes, graphic elements, etc. needed to explore, design, and launch products.
- Monitor and manage strategic marketing plans for each product or product lines, in collaboration with marketing staff.
- As part of an entrepreneurial startup within an established academic institution, communicate new learning and contribute product ideas and modes of delivery to relevant faculty and staff projects in other areas of the seminary.
- Execution
- Able to operate primarily as the primary product manager, directing other team members and contractors as the team grows.
- Lead human-centered design thinking process, including 1:1 user interviews (screening, recruiting, conducting), small group discussion/co-creation sessions, and live prototyping—in collaboration with marketing staff.
- Work with a co-located engineering team and manage details needed to implement the desired product experience.
- Represent users’ needs across all internal discussions and decisions that impact user experience.
- Develop budgets, forecasts, and metrics.
- Perform other duties as reasonably required as a senior member of the Leadership Platform team.
- Contribute to the vision of the overall Leadership Formation Division as a member of the LFD Lead Team.
Knowledge and Skills Required: - Minimum 5 years of experience as consumer mobile/web senior product leader, or senior product leader for similar innovative ministry/educational content experiences
- BS in a related technical degree or equivalent experience in educational technology
- Experience with design thinking and user-centered design methodologies
- Experience designing, implementing, and running agile product development processes
- Experience with data analytics and design-making, including Google Analytics
- Demonstrated excellence in a small team, and an entrepreneurial working environment
- Strongly prefer 3-5+ years’ experience of leading a multicultural team, with strong relational skills and ability to build relationships, manage teams, and work effectively with diverse staff
- Personal passion for faith-based and human-flourishing products, and a history of impact-focused pursuits
- Excellent verbal and oral communication skills
- Ability to work effectively in a multi-task environment a must—the ability to initiate, prioritize, maintain, and complete both short-term and long-term projects simultaneously with a high degree of attention to detail
- Occasional travel domestically and potentially internationally to support the Platform’s initiatives.
