Spring Arbor University is seeking an individual with experience in Special Education to strengthen and continue to build our Education program. The position will begin in August 2021.
POSITION DESCRIPTION The School of Education at Spring Arbor University (SAU) invites applicants for a tenure-track position in the field of Special Education. Assigned courses could include undergraduate and graduate courses in Special Education, including Autism Spectrum Disorder and/or Learning Disabilities, as well as other areas of Teacher Education or related disciplines for which the candidate may be qualified. The successful candidate will be familiar with Michigan Department of Education standards for the preparation of classroom, as well as knowledge of contemporary research and evidence-based best practices in curriculum, instruction, and assessment. The candidate should be enthusiastic about teaching and contributing to the school through advising/mentoring students, various activities related to teacher education, and working collegially with fellow faculty to support the Special Education programs. Responsibilities include teaching, development of scholarly endeavors, innovative curriculum development, mentoring students, and university service.

The successful candidate will be able to articulate how they would integrate the Christian faith into their discipline and will be someone who enjoys working with students and other faculty. Applicants must be thoroughly supportive of the University’s mission and values as an evangelical Christian University affiliated with the Free Methodist Church.
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE PhD or EdD in Special Education or a related field preferred; Master’s degree required. Experience as a certified Special Education teacher with at least five years of successful teaching in K-12 schools is required, with additional years of experience in teaching or K-12 leadership preferred. State Licensure in Michigan or another state is required. Successful college teaching experience in both traditional campus environments and online is preferred. We are seeking an individual who is passionate about academic excellence and about preparing students to impact the world for Jesus Christ within the vocation of education.
