Higher Ed Administrative Careers - Information Systems/Technology
The Department of Computing, Mathematics and Physics in the School of Science, Engineering and Health at Messiah University invites applications for a faculty position in Computer Science/Cybersecurity beginning August 1, 2021.
Responsibilities: The position includes teaching introductory to advanced undergraduate classes in cybersecurity, as well as foundational computer and informational courses. The department has particular need for support in teaching subject areas such as Ethical Hacking, Network Security, and Digital Forensics.
In addition to these traditional teaching responsibilities, candidates who qualify for the appointment of Term-Tenure Track faculty will be expected to pursue scholarship in the discipline of cybersecurity (see below). Scholarship is not a requirement by candidates who qualify for the appointment of Lecturer.
Finally, all successful candidates are expected to contribute to the health and well-being of the university through various forms of institutional service, including but not limited to efforts in recruitment, governance, and curriculum development.
Qualifications: Successful candidates for hire into a Term-Tenure Track position are expected to have a Ph.D. in Cybersecurity OR Computer and Information Science with substantial security-related experience. A Master’s degree with suitable experience would qualify candidates for a Lecturer appointment. Candidates must evidence the potential for strong classroom teaching and a commitment to pursuing their ongoing scholarship, where applicable.
The Program: Messiah University’s Department of Computing, Mathematics and Physics currently offers a BS in Cybersecurity, BS in Computer and Information Science with concentrations in Computer Science, Software Development, Web Management, and Business Information Systems. We also support a Mobile App and Game Design concentration for our inter-disciplinary Digital Media major. We currently have close to 90 majors in the department. The Cybersecurity program is in alignment with the NSA and DHS Cyber Defense curriculum. The CIS major includes a required internship and graduates have a high job placement rate.
The Department: The Department of Computing, Mathematics and Physics comprises 4 full-time CIS, 6 full-time mathematics/statistics, and 3 full-time physics faculty. The department serves a wide range of majors in CIS, Cybersecurity, Mathematics, Statistics, and Physics, in addition to meeting course requirements in other fields of study. CIS faculty pursue professional interests in cybersecurity, web development, database applications, computer simulations, programming and programming languages, and ethics of technology. Our mission is mentoring students and preparing them professionally, personally and spiritually for impact and community, a growth mindset, and a strong foundation in the processes and applied practices of Cybersecurity/CIS. Core attributes we seek to instill in our students include a Christ-like character, competence in the discipline, preparation for lifelong learning, perseverance, and strong communication and relational skills.s
