Chair, Department of Music & Assistant/Associate/Full Professor of Music

Summary: Palm Beach Atlantic University seeks an inspiring and strategic Chair of the Department of Music who will partner with faculty and other leaders to shape, develop, and implement visionary leadership in the areas of curriculum, programming, collaborations, creative activity, and accreditation to further enhance the excellence and vitality of the Department in accordance with the University mission. Reporting to the Dean of the School of Music and Fine Arts, which includes the Departments of Art, Dance, Music, and Preparatory Department, the Chair of the Department of Music will teach in the area of expertise within the music program with a two-course reduction per semester. An instrumentalist to lead the Symphonic Band is preferred, but not required.

Qualifications: The following qualifications are required in the successful candidate:
Education/Experience: An earned doctorate in one of the Department’s disciplines or a closely related field. A demonstrable history of successful fundraising, community engagement, and academic program development and experience with NASM and accreditation is preferred. Responsibilities: The successful candidate will possess interpersonal skills sufficient to work effectively with an increasingly diverse array of students and colleagues and will have a demonstrated commitment to creating, fostering and sustaining a culture that celebrates entrepreneurship, innovation, and collaboration in and out of the classroom. This person will excel in attention to detail, effective oral and written communication, consensus building, creative problem solving, professionalism, and intrinsic work ethic. As the leader of the music unit, the Chair will bring the intellectual capacity, inspiration, and energy required to advance the creative momentum to ensure that the Department’s achievements are broadcast widely and strategically. The Department of Music is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music with Bachelor of Music and Bachelor of Arts curricular specializations in music education, performance, composition, music industry, and worship leadership. With more than 43,000 square feet of performance, classroom, practice, and studio space, the Department of Music is located in the four-story Vera Lea Rinker Hall. Internal performing opportunities include involvement in a variety of ensembles including Concert Choir, Oratorio Chorus, Symphony, Symphonic Band, Pop Rock Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble, Woodwind Ensemble, Percussion Ensemble, Brass Ensemble, String Ensemble, World Music Ensemble, and Opera Workshop.
