Mount Vernon Nazarene University is seeking a full-time (24 credit hour teaching load) instructional faculty member in the Social Work Department. Faculty rank is commensurate with experience. Compensation is competitive among the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities.

Responsibilities for this position include:

  • Teaching courses in the traditional Social Work program
  • Advising Social Work majors, ensuring that their academic progress meets requirements set by the institution, and working with students to encourage professional development
  • Assisting the department with CSWE activities
  • Supporting departmental efforts for continued improvement of programs
  • Assisting the department with recruiting prospective students
  • Serving the University through committee participation
  • Teaching courses in the Graduate and Professional Studies (GPS) Social Work Program, as needed
  • Assisting with the development of curriculum for the GPS Social Work Program, as needed
  • Teaching on-line courses, as needed

Qualifications for the successful candidate:

  • Evangelical Christian confession of faith and experience required: member of the Church of the Nazarene preferred
  • MSW from a CSWE- accredited program with two or more years of post-MSW experience required; terminal degree in an appropriate field preferred
  • Social Work licensure (LSW or LISW) preferred
  • Evidence of scholarly potential
  • Commitment to high quality and innovative social work classroom instruction
  • Evidence of successful previous teaching experience in higher education preferred
  • Teaching ability preferred in macro and policy
  • Evidence of proficiency in online instruction and assessment technologies and software preferred
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills necessary for effective collaboration with a diverse community of students, faculty, staff, and stakeholders
  • Desire to help students succeed in the university setting; strong connectivity to adult college student needs
  • Strong organizational, problem solving, and time management skills
  • Proven ability to work well with others
  • Ability to lift 25 lbs
