History Department Assistant/Associate Professor

The History Department at North Greenville University invites applicants for the position of Assistant/Associate Professor of History beginning August 2021. Advanced ABD applicants may be considered, but ideally the successful applicant will hold a Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree, and their field will be either Asian, African, Latin American, Eastern European, or World history. Pre-modern emphasis is preferred. We particularly invite candidates who will enhance the racial, ethnic, gender, or cultural diversity of our university. Faculty teach both general education survey courses and upper-level courses in their area of specialty. The teaching load is 4/4, and faculty are expected to advise students and serve on university committees, as well as remain professionally active in their fields. Rank will be commensurate with academic experience. The History Department currently includes four full-time faculty teaching about 55 undergraduate students majoring in History and Social Studies Education.

The successful candidate possesses a proven record of and passion for teaching, mentoring, and inspiring undergraduate students, especially first-generation students, while preparing them for a variety of careers. Preference will be given to those who have a record of scholarly or professional publications. Although the primary focus of faculty at NGU is teaching, professional development and writing for publication is encouraged. We seek applicants with excellent organizational and communication skills, and those who have cultivated a collaborative style and will enjoy being an active part of a close-knit community of teachers and learners.
