Job Summary

Manages relationships with key high capacity investors in Bethel University, including management of identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.  Serves as the primary planned giving officer working with key donors and training development team members in planned giving.  Represents development function with University leadership in planning and execution of University fundraising goals. Oversees development team.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise, train, monitor, and coach staff of Development Officers and Senior Development Officers to meet institutional fundraising goals that will exceed $10M annually. 
  • Oversee planned giving strategy, managing donors, expanding the planned giving pool, partnering with the Bethel Foundation. Oversee planned giving communication.
  • Partner with the VP to plan and manage the comprehensive campaign including: campaign strategy and public phase.
  • Personal cultivation and stewardship of relationships and solicitation of gifts from select high capacity investors capable of making a major gift or a planned gift to the University.
  • Cultivate internal relationships with all areas of the University to enhance participation by faculty, athletics, center staff and others in major gift solicitation    

Requirements

  • Demonstrated ability to solicit and secure planned charitable gifts and current leadership gifts. Demonstrate the knowledge, ability and personality necessary to convey to alumni, friends, corporations, foundations and other contributors the need, propriety and benefit of charitable investment in institutions of higher education.
  • Have personally raised in excess of $5,000,000.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully lead and supervise a team of development officers or fundraising relationship managers to accomplish institutional goals
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently to plan activities and manage schedule to attain goal results
  • Extensive knowledge of planned giving techniques and benefits
  • Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive, confidential information professionally
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain timely and complete record of activities, results, and planned follow up to discussions
  • Demonstrated ability to develop social relationships based upon common purpose
  • Demonstrated ability to work with peers and others to collaborate in accomplishment of team goals
  • Minimum of 10 years major and planned gift development or related experience. Non-profit fundraising or sales supervisory experience, preferably in higher education
