POSITION: Full-time, with faculty rank; continuing status track; 11-month faculty appointment in the School of Humanities, Religion, and Social Sciences.

DESCRIPTION

The Biblical and Theological Studies program seeks to provide students with opportunities to understand, delight in and witness to the Scriptures as normative for faith and life, in conversation with the Anabaptist-Mennonite and Evangelical traditions, the larger Christian church, and the world. It seeks to instill a sense of and appreciation for the breadth of the Kingdom of God, with its great diversity of backgrounds, points of view, and religious affiliations. All Fresno Pacific University students are required to take two Biblical Studies courses, intended to provide students with both academic and practical opportunities for learning and growth within the broader community of Fresno Pacific University’s General Education program. Courses are designed to promote improvement of skills for reading and understanding the Bible in its literary and historical contexts as well as within the context of a contemporary learning community, regardless of the student’s own world view. The interactive approach to learning is intended to move students beyond knowledge and understanding to doing, living and being. 

ROLE

• Teach 21 units/year of assigned courses in the Biblical & Theological Studies program utilizing multiple modalities and creative pedogogical practices to to engage diverse undergraduate student populations (traditional and adult accelerated) in courses which include (primarily):
  • BIB-100/300/314 Jesus & the Christian Community
  • General Education Biblical Literature courses
  • General Education Biblical Perspectives courses
• Cultivate pedagogical excellence within program through collaborative curriculum development and modeling best practices in teaching.
• Perform administrative duties related to staffing and scheduling courses for Biblical & Theological Studies (BTS) and General Education (GE) Biblical Studies courses across FPU’s 5 regional campuses and online.
• Provide administrative assistance and oversight (as needed) for courses in the Biblical & Theological Studies program (total administrative duties comprising 9 units of non-teaching assignment load).
• Collaborate with the Biblical & Theological Studies Program Director on tasks such as:
  • Supporting for adjunct instructors
  • Responding to student concerns
  • Representing the Biblical & Theological Studies program at relevant campus meetings/events
• Collaborate with the Biblical & Theological Studies program faculty on issues related to program development, assessment, and implementation.
• Participate in and provide departmental, campus, and community service.
• Maintain an active scholarly agenda.
• Advise students majoring or minoring in Biblical & Theological Studies.
