University Mission Statement
Trevecca Nazarene University is a Christian community providing education for leadership and service.
The Director of Student Life will be directly responsible for designing and administering holistic student life programs and involvement opportunities on campus. This position will provide oversight for Student Governance, campus activities, chapel engagement, student organizations, and annual traditions programs. This position will oversee a team of part time coordinators and student leaders to help meet university strategic engagement and student involvement goals. The position is full-time, 12-month exempt.
The successful candidate will be responsible for providing a holistic student involvement experience at the university.
Promote well-rounded programming for all members of the student body based on a holistic approach to student development.
Provide oversight for campus activities, student organizations, and student governance at the university
Oversee all aspects of chapel attendance including hiring and supervision of student chapel workers, reviewing chapel exemption requests, and counseling students regarding attendance issues.
Assist in the maintenance of a worshipful atmosphere in Chapel.
Serve as the advisor for the Associated Student Body (ASB) and Student Government Assembly (SGA).
Establish a CSD committee that will coordinate the all-school calendar and develop procedures for reserving dates and facilities for student groups
Serve as a liaison with campus partners for the coordination of student life programs.
Represent the Center Student Development in attendance at activities in the evenings or on weekends along with community life team. This will require flexible office hours.
Promote and support vibrant student organization life on campus
Train and meet with student organization leaders regularly
Lead a team of part-time Coordinators of Community Life and one Graduate Assistant
Provide oversight for university Traditions programming
Support and train faculty sponsors of student organizations and classes, and work with class councils to understand their roles and responsibilities.
Coordinate University efforts to meet the needs of commuting students
Provide oversight for student spaces and offices in the Jernigan Student Center
Submit an annual report and prepare other reports as requested by the associate vice president and dean of student development.
Work with the Associate Dean of Student Life to assist with the creation, planning, and implementation of new student orientations
Assist in retention efforts by meeting and referring students to university resources when necessary
Serve as administrator over involvement software and student event forms on campus
Serve as a member of various university committees as assigned
Collaborate with CSD professionals on student leadership development initiatives
Maintain professional growth and development through current research and literature, membership in professional associations, and attendance at seminars and conferences related to student development.
Perform budget, administrative, and other duties as assigned
Master’s degree in higher education, counseling, leadership, organizational leadership, business, or other related field.
Three to five years of experience in a higher education setting, preferable in the field of Campus Activities, Student involvement, Student Governance, Residence Life, or related area.
Previous experience in campus activities, student involvement, student engagement, or new student programs with proven success of implementing programming models on a campus.
Knowledge and understanding of theory and practice related to college student development, academic support, student wellness, and training and advising student leaders.
Understanding of student affairs organizational technologies and practices.
Ability to identify and resolve complex problems, issues and assignments.
Ability to set priorities and/or sequence of tasks to achieve objectives with some oversight.
Ability to work non-traditional, flexible hours on nights and weekends.
Experience with involvement software preferred (Collegiate Link, OrgSync, Presence, etc)
