Responsible to provide excellence in teaching in the psychology program, consistent with the mission and strategic goals of the Department of Psychology and the University of Northwestern – St. Paul.

Position to start Aug 15, 2021.

Essential job responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Provide excellence in teaching of psychology courses through the fulfillment of the mission and strategic goals of the Department of Psychology.
  • Provide academic advising.
  • Assist with student recruitment.
  • Fulfill assigned departmental duties.
  • Hold office hours.
  • Attending department meetings and other functions as requested by the Department Chair or Sr. Vice President of Academic Affairs.
  • Abide by all University policies.
  • Because our community is a significant part of our mission and the development of our students, all employees act as a minister of the gospel of Jesus Christ by actively partnering with the University to disciple students in growing intellectually and spiritually, and with Northwestern Media to lead people to Christ and nurture believers to mature in their faith.

Secondary job responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Duties listed in the Faculty Handbook.
  • Assist with miscellaneous department duties as requested by the Department Chair, Dean, or Senior Vice President of Academic Affairs.

Minimum Education and Experience:

  • Ph.D or Psy.D in psychology or related field in the behavioral sciences from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning prior to appointment to the faculty
  • Minimum of two years of teaching experience at the college/university level is preferred
  • Substantive experience as a clinician is preferred
  • Maintain a personal relationship with Jesus Christ; is a consistent witness for Jesus Christ; maintain a kind, Christ-like attitude in dealing with and ministering to people within and outside of Northwestern; and faithfully uphold and embrace Northwestern’s mission, doctrinal statement, and Declaration of Christian Community.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Commitment to excellence in teaching and academic advising of undergraduates
  • Ability to integrate the Christian worldview into classroom instruction
  • Ability to lead and manage program development
  • Ability to interact with a variety of individuals in a professional, courteous, and tactful manner
  • Ability to maintain a flexible schedule
  • Knowledge and understanding of basic computer skills
  • Ability to type efficiently and accurately use the computer to carry out job responsibilities
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and organizational skills
  • Understanding of and agreement with Northwestern’s Declaration of Christian Community and Doctrinal Statement is essential
  • Ability to pass a background check upon hire and periodically throughout the course of employment

The work environment involves working in a suburban, Christian university, working alongside those with a demonstrated commitment and personal relationship with Jesus Christ and a commitment to the mission and values of the University and an agreement to abide by all University policies.
