This position will engage a qualified individual in the exciting advancement of two doctoral programs that integrate Marriage and Family Therapy studies with a uniquely Christian perspective of human flourishing. Development of a distinctive research community invested in a scholar/practitioner model will involve the faculty member in wide-ranging scholarly activities with other faculty and a diverse student body from across the U.S. Contributing to the vision of holistic mental health care for individuals, families, churches and communities is elemental to this position.
The full time, tenure track faculty member in the Doctoral Programs in Marriage and Family Therapy is responsible for the instruction, scholarship, dissertation/thesis supervision, academic advising, service and administrative duties as assigned by the department chair. This position involves a full engagement in the collaborative development of the DA and PhD programs and is a ten month position.

Instruction – teach doctoral level courses in Marriage and Family therapy informed by systems theory and attachment theory, and general courses in psychological research methodologies in a blended format (face-to-face and online). Integrate the disciplines of counseling psychology and theology with issues of faith, reason and justice consistent with the mission and values of Eastern University. Accommodate to the program’s year’s round, face-to-face and online instructional schedule. This is a ten month position.
Scholarship – Regularly publish and present research in the discipline of Marriage and Family Therapy and Counseling Psychology in the faculty’s specialization within the professional community. Collaborate with other faculty in research endeavors. Engage and support students in their research and publication endeavors. Provide service to the profession as opportunities arise.
Dissertation/Doctoral Project Supervision – Chair and/or serve on dissertation committees and as doctoral project advisor for approximately a quarter of the load year around. Continuously improve dissertation supervision and doctoral project advising research skills by participating in professional development opportunities. Support all students in their research work.
Advising – Advise doctoral students as assigned by the program chair academically and professionally throughout their program of study. Respond to the needs of prospective students and enrolled students of the DA and PhD programs and continue collegial relationships with graduates.
Service – Provide service to the department, university, and larger community. Assist with and participate in department activities (e.g., comprehensive examinations, program development and assessment, curriculum revision, field placement supervision, residencies, commencement, prospective student interviews, faculty meetings, workshops and retreats, etc.). Participate in university committees, assignments, and functions as required of a full-time faculty member. Serve the larger community as opportunities arise.
An earned doctorate in Marriage and Family Therapy, Psychology or a closely related field (preferred: experience in teaching research methodologies within the discipline)
Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist strongly preferred (any state)
Ability to supervise dissertation/doctoral projects (preferred: doctoral dissertation supervision experience)
Evidence of effectiveness in teaching and/or curriculum development at the post-secondary level (preferred: effective online instruction experience with the adult population)
Documented potential for publication and active research agenda compatible with the DA/PhD programs (preferred: record of publication)
Ability to supervise students in their practicum experience (preferred: AAMFT approved supervisor)
Demonstrated ability to teach and work with persons from culturally diverse backgrounds
